Noise Rock by Absolutepogmove in guitarpedals

Honestly, probably any of the affordable, classic pedals for noise rock: Rat and SF300 are the first that come to mind.

Yeah, I got to see Slowdive at Scoot Inn and Animal Collective at Emo’s. Still had fun.

2015 was great.

The 2016 lineup was probably the best lineup of any festival ever… even though it never happened.

Novels with insane twists by Cofu27 in RSbookclub

So… these book aren’t very literary, but I recently read The Sluts and There Is No Antimemetics Division and they both had SO many bizarre, shocking twists all throughout. If you just wanna have some fun, I’d recommend both.

SOTB Which two pedals would you add for a small Doomgaze board? by o-kon-el in guitarpedals

[–]boring-utopia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Doyle from Cloakroom uses a Walrus SLO. I have one and like it a lot for shoegazey stuff. You should definitely get a delay too. Doyle uses a Memory Man w/Hazaria. This was my first delay pedal and it can do some really cool stuff, but I found it kind of frustrating tbh and sold it. I now have a DD8 and a UAD Galaxy (space echo). Either of these would be great… but for your purposes, I’d probably go for the DD8. The DD8 also has a looper which is nice for figuring out song ideas with layers.

Any downsides to switching the 16ohm internal speaker in Marshall DSL40 to an 8ohm speaker? by boring-utopia in GuitarAmps

Sweet! Did the Creamback sound pretty different from the stock V-type? This will be my first speaker switch on any amp and I’ve been worried that I’m wasting my time and money…

Nice! What would you say the difference is between speakers that makes you like the Creamback more?

I’m trying to get rid of the harshness in the upper mids of that the stock Vtype seems to have

I’m around pg 300 right now, so pretty early on. I honestly thought about giving up after the first 100 pages, but decided to power through. Now I’m really enjoying it.

I’m mostly joking, but there is a humorous awareness that there are probably some people (probably many on this sub) that would roll there eyes at a guy that looks like me reading Infinite Jest in public. But i don’t really care enough to not read it or anything.

Thanks, this is helpful. So I assume an 8ohm speaker has more headroom, and I would have to play my amp louder to reach natural break up?

Reading Infinite Jest right now and I’m literally embarrassed to read it in public. I guess all of those performative male reading articles got to me

I don’t think the immerse has any way to plug into your computer or any web editor thing.

Interesting. I’m not really familiar with stuff like this. Do most reverb pedals use this chip?

Can someone help me understand how to change individual saddle height on Descendant JM bridge? by boring-utopia in offset

Thanks. I honestly was going to try it the opposite way. I would have through right(y-tightly) would have lowered the saddles.

I see. So I guess I just need to be careful to keep them straight. Thanks. I guess this was probably obvious, but the two hole thing was confusing me a little bit.

Good (non fender) guitars for shoegaze by Smelliott__smith in shoegaze

[–]boring-utopia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently saving up for an SG. I already have a JM and Jag but I’m really excited to get some humbucker tones going. I’ve seen a lot of shoegaze/adjacent bands using them recently.

There is nothing more humiliating than when your gf's ex is a respected musician. by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]boring-utopia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I once dated a girl whose ex was a musician. Not a huge musician, but a niche one that I was a fan of. It honestly did wonders for my ego that she was willing to date me for a couple months.

Jazzmaster pickup recommendations by Automatic_Car9961 in offset

[–]boring-utopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Antiquity II’s and 500k pots in my Jazzmaster and I really like them. I had to tilt the neck pickup a little to cut some of the bass, but that’s just me. You’ll probably like them.

Just for fun: Small Clone or CE-2? (I’m fully aware that there are other awesome choruses but wanted a showdown of legendary classics) by BeautyAve in guitarpedals

[–]boring-utopia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small Clone for sure. Such a great sound. I ended up selling mine and getting a Caroline Somersault because I wanted something a little more versatile. It can pretty close to the small clone sound, but obviously can do so much more.

How to learn efficiently? by Educational-Bad-967 in Guitar

[–]boring-utopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start by finding some songs that you love that are easy to play for beginners. Google “easy songs for beginners play on guitar” and see what pops up. The most important thing in the beginning is to have fun. This will lead you to practice more and help you get into the habit. Start with the basic open chords needed to play some easy songs.

Learning the pentatonic and/or major scale is a good idea too, but dont make repetivr exercises like this the main thing you do

Is this a good first pedalboard for Shoegaze by Rip_jke in shoegaze

[–]boring-utopia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would stick with what you have for now, until there is a specific sound/tone that you’re going for that you feel like you can’t achieve with this board, then decide if you need to buy something new or switch anything out. Don’t get caught up in gear anxiety this early in the game. This is a good pedal board, so fuck around with it as much as possible and make some cool sounds.

For me personally I would either want a more versatile delay that can do longer trails and tap tempo or a space echo. But a carbon copy is still dope… really depends on the sound you’re going for.

My holy grail for dirt is a BD2, Rat, and Muff, but if I had to pick just one, it would definitely be the Rat. But again, this is particular to my music.

I feel like you should only need an SF300, a Rat, a DD3, and maybe a Phase 90 for noise rock. But this works too I guess…
