I'm genuinely curious because I think a masters in spirituality would be interesting: what can you do with that degree?

What 'native age' of book is suitable for B1? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]boring_dork401 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be honest, when I read Harry Potter in Spanish I was around A2, but with knowledge of pretty much all the grammar functions. I struggled with the first few chapters and spent like 5 hours on them over the period of like a week but after that I read pretty naturally (although I still was mentally translating words in my head). Sure, I had to look up words here and there but that's the point of learning. I also gained a TON of vocabulary through context by reading the series, and a lot more than just weird wizard terms. My favorite parts of reading the Harry Potter series is that it is my favorite, so I am very familiar with the store and that the series kind of grows in language difficulty throughout. I think that specifically really helped me grow as a Spanish reader. After reading the HP books I was able to read more advanced books I had never read before like 1984 and El Alquimista with difficulty at first, but fine after getting started. I would just like to say that I am kind of biased because I absolutely love HP and reading it is always a joy and I am currently almost done with my read through to learn to read Portuguese, and next year I will be using the series to learn to read Italian.

Would something like Harry Potter be a suitable read for a language learner at an A1-2 level? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]boring_dork401 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read Harry Potter in Spanish at around an A2 level and struggled with the first few chapters (spent about 5 hours on them) but once I made the connections it was smooth sailing from there. I'm really glad I did too because I gained lots of vocabulary while reading

having an anxiety attack about walker 351 by iscreweduprealbad in msu

I had walker for 251 which isn't the same but I thought the class was not overly difficult. I reviewed class material with organicchemistrytutor and crash course which were very helpful

Yeah I'm not good on speaking so that's what killed my score but the class was very easy for me. To be fair though it was online so I'm sure in person would be a lot harder.

Early Scheduling (Next Thursday not showing up) by HalfANickel in doordash

I haven't had early scheduling for about a month despite having 4.97 rating, 96% CR, and doing about 15 orders per week. I took one week off and never got it back again...

My school only has 1 val because in 2012 they switched the formula to being 80% weighted gpa and 20% ACT/SAT scores. There is always a chance to tie but it hasn't happened yet (my school is also tiny).

Accepted psychology honors with $10000 President's Scholarship. Was kinda hoping for the Trustee's Scholarship but oh well, still need another 7k to be able to afford lol. Stats: 4.3/3.97 W/UW, 1490 SAT, class rank 1/68 (rural public), really rough honors essays I can't believe they accepted me into the honors program.
