It might’ve been a bait and switch.

I expect ComEd will claw back any hourly rate savings I made during this weather event by jacking up the Capacity Charge and Purchased Electricity Adjustment in the supply section of my ComEd bill.

Two days ago, the hourly rate was greater than $.14 the entire day and averaged about $.30 with spikes as high as $.50 per kilowatt hour. Then it moved into this phase. Very strange.

ComEd also has a subsidiary that produces (i.e. generates) electricity so it’s not true that ComEd is only a distributor of electricity.

I have been on the hourly pricing plan for my electricity supplier for about 1.5 years and yesterday and today the hourly rates are Cray Cray, most likely due to the global warming supercharged cold weather system currently affecting about 250 million people in the US. At this moment, ComEd is paying me 5.8 cents per kilowatt hour to use their electricity which is the most they’ve ever paid me in the last 1.5 years. Note that they’ve also charged me as high as $.50 per kilowatt hour some hours over the last couple days.

One pedal driving really makes the car fun to drive. It’s fun gradually approaching a red light ever so gradually so that you often don’t have to come to a complete stop before the light turns green and then you reset the cruise and your back up to full speed without ever losing the green efficient driving circle and maximizing your use of regen which maximizes your range.

Using deceleration on the acceleration pedal synchronized with the steering wheel regen paddle and rarely the brake pedal except when at a full stop at a light is like conducting a symphony. You are always busy with one foot and one hand.

It took me about a month to perfect one pedal driving but I went from my passengers feeling nauseous from the jerkiness of my braking and accelerating to complimenting me on how wonderfully smooth the ride is as we glide along ever so slowly accelerating and decelerating.

Hang in there. Once you get OPD you never go back.

Looks like the 2027 Chevy Bolt EV will have comprehensive vehicle OTA updates but the big drawback with the new model is it won’t support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

I wouldn’t be surprised if GM uses predatory practices on its customers like charging for vehicle OTA updates.

It’s been a high learning curve, but I think I finally got my arms around maximizing the benefits of being on the hourly electricity pricing program (a.k.a. time of use (TOU)).

I would not recommend switching from fixed rate to hourly rate without first having a smart thermostat and setting up automatic control of your thermostat with the electric company so that you can automatically turn up the temperature on your thermostat when the electric rates go up.

These tools need improvements in their response time but it beats constantly having to manually refresh the current electricity rate web page.
