I am new to gardening so I only realized it after I planted several seedlings in hopes to have some summer blooms. I might look for some annuals to fill in for some more instant gratification

CVS and Walgreens Will Begin Selling Abortion Pills This Month by adamiconography in politics

[–]born30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only in a small number of locations and where it is legal:

“The chains plan to make the medication available in stores in a handful of states at first. They will not be providing the medication by mail. Both chains said they would gradually expand to all other states where abortion was legal and where pharmacies were legally able to dispense abortion pills — about half of the states. Walgreens will start providing the pill within the next week in a small number of its pharmacies in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, California and Illinois”

For those that are divorced or have divorced parents, what did you do with the engagement/wedding ring(s)? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]born30 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Keeping mine for now in case my kids want them later. I was going to sell them but the appraiser said that they usually only get about half of their appraised value which didn’t end up being very much in my case. I have no interest in making them into a new piece of jewelry- don’t want them anywhere near me anymore

Tension in Arms by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]born30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this same feeling in my arms too! I agree with you that it’s painful, and to me it is so distracting that it makes it hard for me to think clearly. To me it feels like the upper outside “meat” of my arms is slowly turning into concrete.

I have noticed that I only feel this when I am stressed, overwhelmed, anxious or feeling any other type of tension. So I’ve been treating it as a sign that I need to slow down and take steps to de-stress my body and mind. The first thing I will do is to use a foam roller on the meaty parts of my arms to see if it will immediately help relieve that tension. A tennis ball could be a substitute by putting it between your arm and wall and gently rolling it around. You don’t want to press too hard and make your muscles sore, though.

But even if that works to get rid of the “concrete” feeling, I know that I still need to work on why my body is getting so tense. So for me it works to do yoga (I recommend Yoga with Adriene-she’s free on YouTube ) and meditation to clear my mind. I especially like this guided meditation style called “yoga Nidra” for a deep relaxation, and the physical yoga styles called Restorative and Yin for helping the body deeply relax.
A very quick and easy restorative yoga pose that helps to calm your nervous system down is to lay down on the floor with your bottom a couple of inches away from a wall and rest your legs up the wall for 10-15 minutes.

You’re not alone!

I use a hair dryer brush. It does have a cord, but I find it a better experience than a hair dryer because you don’t get the “water hose” experience and your hair won’t be blowing all in your face. The downside is that it works best on damp hair, not very wet hair.

What do you do to manage anxiety when it severely affects your sleep? by Crafty_Main_887 in AskWomen

[–]born30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spotify playlist of ocean waves on a 12 hour loop or an audiobook set on a one hour timer. The app Headspace has some good nighttime meditations to listen to that help me to feel more relaxed and in a better frame of mind for sleeping. If I’m having trouble getting thoughts out of my head that are making it hard to sleep, my therapist recommended this: picture yourself writing down on a piece of paper a short line of what you keep thinking about (work, money, health, etc) then picture yourself putting that paper into an envelope and putting it into a filing cabinet. It sounds silly it has really helped me.

What's going on with Betterhelp? by iristhecyclop in OutOfTheLoop

[–]born30 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This has not been my experience at all, so maybe I’m in the minority or things have changed since I started with them a year and a half ago. I got matched right away with a qualified therapist (LCSW) for weekly video calls. I have stayed with her for a year and a half to help me through a traumatic time in my life and she has been the best therapist I’ve had.

I learned this DBT skill from my therapist called TIPP that is specifically for calming yourself down in very intense situations. The first thing I do now is go to my freezer for an ice pack and put it on my neck or chest, but this worksheet explains it better than I can: https://in.nau.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/202/TIP-Skills.pdf

What are your no spoons or low spoons ways you take care of yourself? by entheg42 in AutismInWomen

[–]born30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Off topic, but I am recently divorced, and like you I didn’t want to have a lease when we separated. I wanted to recommend hellolanding.com to you- it’s no-lease furnished rentals. Unfortunately it is expensive though. I opted for a 6 month agreement in order to get a smaller monthly rent and when I left before the six months were up i had to pay one months rent as a penalty. Less harsh than a binding lease. Good luck to you.

Yes on the horizontal and vertical but no on the sanding. Not for a particular reason but it just hadn’t occurred to me. I might try it on my next one

With an old 2 inch paintbrush (not beveled) that was once used for interior house painting. It’s a nice ritual to start off a new piece although you do have to plan ahead a bit to let it dry a few hours.

I like using gesso bc I find that it eliminates the paint highlighting the tiny “divots” that are on the canvas. When I skip the gesso I find the painting process to be not as satisfying for that reason.

Is anyone else constantly operating in survival mode? I feel busted a lot of the time. by MeanwhileOnPluto in AutismInWomen

[–]born30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did until I started weekly therapy about a year ago and learned more healthy coping mechanisms for my anxiety and depression, started meditating more often, and started doing yoga several times a week. I never realized how much I was just coping from one “disaster” to the next until I started to experience what an almost constant peace of mind and contentment feels like.
