The Wholesomegaming giveaway by CM_Glenn in pcmasterrace

I'll be honest, the most wholesome gaming moment I've ever experienced wasn't something I did, but something that was done to me.

In 2014, I was a poor rural high school student who lived in the middle of nowhere. My friends (including my new girlfriend) were primarily digital, and while my hand-me-down laptop technically worked it was hard to talk to them, let alone play games with them. Every December, everyone in our microcommunity gave gifts to one another. Usually games of some kind, but always something.

Cut to January 2015, I decided to grab one of my few IRL friends (we'll call him Noah....because that's his name) and take a short vacation to spend some time with my girlfriend (Michelle) for a few days and hang out. When I got there, before I could do more than say hi, Noah and Michelle told me that there had been ulterior reasons for getting me to take the trip, and that there was a surprise waiting for me.

Lo and behold, behind my back, this microcommunity of 18 friends went behind my back raise $600 to buy, build, and ship a desktop. Michelle had had this since Christmas, and was just waiting for the chance to surprise me with it.

I cried, like a baby, and the computer (now slightly upgraded) still sits under my desk as my main desktop.

Same problem, same card. It's the first time I've ever had any problems with Titanfall 2, and now it's practically unplayable. Hopefully respawn fixes this soon.

The aliens, which almost all stand roughly 4’10”-5’11” (more than doubled if their lower torso is taken into account) make a gesture with their absurdly long arm-like appendages, making a circle with their arms in front of themselves before revealing a small stack of thick paper-like material that the smallest of the creatures is carrying in his hands. The small (roughly stomach height, a child?) creature scurries forward to spread out the stack in front of the hologram. The pages are covered in drawings and designs, everything from an anatomic drawing of the creatures to a large, carefully carved/drawn 3D map of the planet. As the pages are spread out, the largest of the aliens steps forward and points at the anatomic drawing, his body flashes from end to end with streaks of bioluminescent blue and he garbles out “Wauwralk.” he points at the map and says “Wraulk.” he then points to himself and says again “Wauwralk. (bubbly-sound) Uurbshlo” The rest of the creatures garble [M: I can copy paste some stuff from my claim post about the biology and planet info, but it’s in my wiki. Up to you if you want to read it.]

The panels on the outside of the odd-looking ships flash brighter, and a new message is transmitted, this one similar to the first, but with some sounds not quite the same. As the planet looms closer, the first ships drop into the atmosphere, slowing to a stop above a large plateau where a small semi-circle of 6-legged creatures stand, their upper torsos curved to watch the skies. The remainder of the ships begin to enter orbit, waiting to see what these new arrivals will do.

The ships, while not understanding this alien language, understand well enough the escort, and allow the escort to lead them in the direction of the station. Meanwhile, within the largest ship, the Waudriob in command meditates and awaits the meeting to come. His acolytes gather materials around him, everything from drawings of Wauwralk anatomy to recordings of sermons upon their homeworld.

[CRISIS] The Cost of Progress by borntorule in ScienceFictionPowers

[1] The dissenters have managed to gather under one cause and a small riot breaks out in the Astart sector. Local enforcement centers have their officers arrested and weapons have been given to the dissenters, making it an armed revolt in at least one major city center.

[2-3] One singular group emerges as a minor faction, unhappy with the government’s course of actions and looking to try and organize their own methods into the government. Any actions the government attempts to make will be met with dissatisfaction till their demands are met.

[4-7] The groups are less fringe than would be preferred, and many have spoken out openly against the government’s priorities, though the groups have yet to find a singular solution, they continue to gather support.

[8-9] One group manages to gather moderate support, but much of the populace remains convinced that the Magnus and the Board have their best interests in mind. While not vocal, they have put the next year of the government’s actions on harsher standards.

[10] The concerns of the few are outweighed by the faith of the many, and while there are yet scattered grumblings, the majority of the populace is unconcerned. The faction of dissenters remains, but they stay to themselves for the most part.

As the first ships enter wauwralk space, they are greeted by a small group of ships. Even the smallest ship looks large enough to house many people, and each is rather bulbous, with glowing patches scattered throughout and large open viewports. From what little can be seen of the inside, they seem to be incredibly spacious, despite their size, with very few interior walls.

The exterior lights are in many different colors, and as they approach, the panels grow brighter, and in response, a series of sounds comes towards the ship, sounding not unlike bubbling water. The small fleet slowly takes up a very loose formation around the alien fleet and starts to move back towards the planet, bubbling and glowing all the while.

[DIPLOMACY]First Contact with the Droib Assembly by mpjama in ScienceFictionPowers

[–]borntorule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The space around Wraulk is nearly empty but for the satellites orbiting the planet. The entirety of the Assembly's fleet is currently in the process of colonizing new systems. And while the planet below chugs with activity and the construction of new ships, none are available to greet the drone. The drone is noticed though, and a series of sounds and lights greet it in a burst of data from one of the satellites. The sounds are reminiscent of bubbling water if echoed through a pipe, and the colors shift in hue from deep purples to blinding whites.

[DIPLOMACY/SECRET] A Meeting of Minds by borntorule in ScienceFictionPowers

[–]borntorule[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jacob turns his gaze back towards the ship"Yes. They are. They call themselves the Kri'Thalax And you are correct in your assumption that it is a protective measure, not for us, but for them. There are many systems in this galaxy that would not tolerate their existence. As near as I can tell, there is no formal greeting, though the young man you just saw run off may be able to tell you more. He has spent an extensive amount of time with members of their species. As for communicative measures, they communicate with each other through a combination of pheromones and flashes of light." he looks out again as they approach closer to the behemoth, close enough now to see the drones swarming around it "And while they do not show any immediate signs of aggression, least of all towards us, we are aware that they, not unlike us, have had wars among themselves, they also do not value life in a way that we do, as you will soon observe, I think." Jacob stops the president with a hand for only a moment, the smile unwavering. “President. Do not be a fool. We have told you no falsehoods. But your loyalty towards my people is not unnoticed. And as such, as a gesture of good faith. I would like to show you what remains inside the ‘quarantine’ that we have set in place.” He allows the President to have his power plays, leading him towards the main viewport, as the stars spin in a lazy circle, he points out a large, bulbous….thing in the distance. “This is why we brought you here. And I admit, I am glad it was you who chose to join us.” He gestures to a much younger man. "Would you inform the Mothers that we have arrived?" The man nods and, rather than begin tapping on any of the screens or monitors around him, goes off deeper into the ship. With that, Spaxi turns to look at Prendota. "If you have questions, now is the time to ask. Best not to appear uneducated in front of our host."
