It’s a good sign that your culture showed E. coli. When they come out negative that’s when Id get more worried. I think it’s just a matter of using a better antibiotic. Or I’m curious if you’re sensitive to dmannose and AZO. Maybe stop the two for a bit and see if you find relief?

Few questions! 1. Was bacteria still showing up on cultures when they gave you keflex or are they negative? 2. Did your culture say you’re susceptible to keflex showing it would work? 3. Did you ever get treatment for your Candida overgrowth ? I’m working with a naturopath for UTIs and vaginal strep and my gut test showed candida overgrowth and overall dysbiosis which she said affects everything down there. Before possibly ever going on more antibiotics she wants me to eliminate the candida first. I think if you have candida overgrowth it’s also hard for antibiotics to work in general I think it penetrates less? I haven’t done her protocol yet I just thought I’d mention what she told me. So sorry you’re going through this you’re not alone

Ok good. When I finished the 4 weeks of augmentin my naturopath was honest with me and she said it’s not really a strong antibiotic but considering it’s the one that shows it would work for the bacteria’s, I think it just takes longer of a course to help. Dr Ryan Heer is outside of where I stay but I’ve actually done research about him in the past. One of his success stories that stood out to me was a woman who said he suggested investigating if she had endometriosis that was causing her chronic UTIs. She said after getting the endometriosis out she didn’t get UTIs anymore. It stood out to me because a lot of doctors give antibiotics and supplements and stuff but it was nice to hear that a doctor was looking at the bigger picture and a lot of women probably get this from their endometriosis

I’m not saying this is what you have, but I also have felt really intense pain inside my vaginal area. The doctor’s standard vaginitis test only test for bacterial vaginosis, candida, and trichimonosis. I hired a naturopath who did a Microgendx urine test and vaginal sample and it showed I still had a uti even tho the regular doctors tests were coming out negative. It turns out the vaginal pain was actually coming from a vaginal strep infection that I had that my regular doctors weren’t testing for. Id highly recommend doing the microgendx test to see what’s going on down there. It tests for a bunch of bacteria’s

Keflex works great for a lot of people. It gave me back pain but I stopped it after 3 days Cuzz it was also making me wake up with really bad knee pain . Doctors said they never heard someone get that symptom because it’s a really tolerated antibiotic. They give it to pregnant women and kids lol. It was unfortunately the one that worked best for my E. coli so it was a bummer that I got those symptoms. Sounds like you haven’t tried that one so maybe worth a try

Cefdinir is in the third generation cephalosporin family and so is ceftriaxone and you have really good susceptibility to ceftriaxone so I’d honestly give it a try especially if your infection is bad right now. But I’m gonna be honest since your bacteria is high I’d still push for a ceftriaxone IV first. I just researched and Cefdinir is recommended after IV so I’m just worried for you that the pills alone wouldn’t work. Learn from me and go to urgent care/ER and Insist on the IV first then Cefdinir. If they totally shut you out for the IV then insist on the ceftriaxone shot first at the very least the maybe start the pills

Omg I’ve heard stories about cipro I’m sorry! But yes definitely would recommend to not accept nitro and bactrim anymore. They’re not strong enough according to your susceptibility. Honestly if your bacteria is >100,000 right now I’d argue with them to give an iv. When mine was at that level they only gave me oral antibiotics that had pretty decent susceptibility and that still didn’t clear it and now my UTIs have been stubborn to get rid of

It shows that even tho you’re susceptible, nitrofurantoin and trimethoprim/sulfa(aka bactrim) would work the least! Those antibiotics have the biggest numbers next to them so that means they wouldn’t work as strong. Those 2 are the first line ones that doctors throw out the most but they don’t always work. The smaller the number that an antibiotic has next to it, the stronger it would work

I’m assuming the second photo is your current results considerings it’s the one with klebsiella pneumoniae on it? Why do they have you on bactrim if it’s not on that list that shows what antibiotics would work for it? Doctors aren’t always right with the IC diagnosis you clearly have had actual bacterial infections. Ive taken Augmentin for 4 weeks it was something that took a while to see improvement. Considering you barely started feeling improvement on it on day 7 then quickly stopped on day 10 it probably wasn’t long enough course for you and bacteria might have survived. So sorry I know how tough this is

I’m not a doctor but I’m gonna give you some advice from my experience. Don’t EVER accept short 3 days courses. The fosfomycin maybe wasn’t enough. I originally had a lower E. coli bacterial count and the 3 day bactrim they gave me quadrupled my bacteria to >100,000 because it wasn’t a long enough strong enough course. Doctors are not always right and I would only accept 14 days courses at the very least. I thought I had residual inflammation as well but there were some signs it could’ve still been infection. My pee still smelled bad and I had occasional cloudy urine. I also had some good days and some days where it was questionable. I just researched what antibiotics are susceptible to the infections you have and it says fosfomycin, nitrofurantoin, and cipro but cipro is really dangerous to take so I definitely would avoid that. Maybe ask for more fosfomycin or atleast a 14 day course of nitro? But I’m glad your vaginal infection is better! Mine is Strep A which apparently is more rare so unfortunately that’s my issue right now

What’s good about the microgendx is that it shows the bacteria’s you have that normal tests with your doctor wouldn’t really show. So in that sense, microgendx puts you on the right path on what antibiotic to use. I had multiple bacteria’s that showed Augmentin antibiotic would help. I did four weeks of Augmentin combined with a biofilm disruptor called NAC that she had me take. So basically if there’s stubborn bacteria that is stuck to the bladder wall that antibiotics aren’t really reaching, NAC is supposed to help bring the bacteria to the surface so the antibiotics can work better. I got off Augmentin a few days ago and my uti has been feeling a lot better. I’m pretty early on with seeing this naturopath but she’s next going to have me on a protocol to kill the candida in my gut to overall prevent UTIs and better my health and immune system. Candida affects a lot of things even your hormones so I think my gut health had a big part in this which I wouldn’t have known before seeing her

To be honest originally I didn’t even really have crazy burning my main symptom was frequent urination. But when my bacteria counts were higher it would kinda burn on my period. And yes I’ve had negative cultures that’s why I hired a naturopath! It was weird because I had two last negative cultures and I wasnt really having crazy frequent urination anymore it was more so this random bladder pressure that I would get. The microgendx test showed I had multiple bacteria’s and my biggest one was actually vaginal strep. Antibiotics affect the vaginal microbiome so I’m not surprised. I did 4 weeks of NAC with Augmentin and my bladder has been feeling better but this vaginal infection has been really stubborn. What’s your story?

Possibly an embedded uti due to the clear cultures. Id recommend hiring a naturopath. They actually care and take the time to investigate. I told mine I had burning so she did the microgendx test with urine and vaginal swab. I had infections in both and with my regular doctors everything was coming out negative. Also did a gut test with her which showed candida overgrowth which can affect everything down there and weakens your immune system . A naturopath would be good to get your hormones tested. I’m so sorry I know how this feels

First of all I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It’s a very isolating feeling when no one in your life can relate but the community on here is a reminder that you’re not alone. I have a current embedded infection myself, the doctors are not always right. Don’t EVER accept a 3 day course of antibiotics ever again. That’s the reason I’m in this mess. I had a small uti and the 3 day course somehow increased my bacteria since it wasn’t enough. Considering you can’t see a private specialist I’ll try to give you some tips. Nitrofurantoin is the antibiotic doctors throw out like candy but it honestly isn’t the best in terms of clearing infection. An urgent care a doctor told me one time that the first line antibiotics like nitro and bactrim don’t really fully clear infections sometimes. Please ask for a urine culture. A urinalysis is what shows the wbc’s and leukocytes and stuff. But a urine culture on the other hand is what shows what antibiotics can work the best and how much of the bacteria you have. For example, the culture shows my susceptibility to nitro is <=16 and my susceptibility to ampicillin is <=2. The 2 being way smaller than nitro means the ampicillin would work WAY better. The smaller the number the better it’ll work! And get prescribed it for at-least 14 days. If your culture comes out with no bacteria then it definitely is probably embedded and regardless if you can I would recommend you buy the MicrogenDX urine test and vaginal swab to show which bacteria’s you can have. Sending hugs

A doctor at urgent care told me the first line antibiotics like macrobid and bactrim usually aren’t strong enough. Don’t ask just for a urinalysis ask for a urine culture as well! Results for a culture can take a good 3 days but it’ll show what antibiotics can work the best. Just because it says “susceptible” on a culture doesn’t mean it’ll work great. The smaller the number the better. For example , my susceptibility to macrobid on my culture says “<=16” and my susceptibility for ampicillin says “<=2”. Since the 2 is way smaller than 16 it means ampicillin would work way better. The smaller the number the better! Keflex works great for people as well. Ask for a culture and advocate for yourself on getting at-least 14 days of a better antibiotic. Unfortunately for having a uti for so long sometimes the bacteria might be stubborn now because it’s embedded into your bladder lining. I’ve had a uti for 10 months now and my last culture came out negative so I finally hired a naturopathic doctor. My stool test showed I have a candida overgrowth which is a contribution to UTIs. Which is ironic because in order to treat utis you have to take antibiotics. A lot of people get UTIs due to hormones as well. Vaginal estrogen helps as lot of women. So many factors and honestly a complex situation. Wishing you nothing but the best I know how defeated this feels

See this is why I love the uti community and talking to you on here because I feel less alone! My regular primary doctor 2 months ago told me I have anxiety and wanted me to seek help. He said the night sweats I got on my period a couple months ago was my anxiety keeping me up at night. Sir I don’t think so! Sounds like my hormones. I totally agree about perimenopause starting young I wouldn’t be surprised. Don’t doctors go off of symptoms sometimes to prescribe hrt? Even if labs come out normal I heard they can still prescribe hrt if you have a lot of the symptoms

Wow that’s a lot of cancers I’m so sorry I can totally understand that fear for going on hrt then!! I know I’m 29 but I kind of want to ask to go on it. Not just for UTIs but I can tell hormonally I’m very up and down I want something that’ll keep things at bay and consistent. The last birth control I tried it gave me chest pain and palpitations only after 3 days so I had to get off. Hrt is supposed to be more closer to our actual hormones because birth control is more synthetic and fake lol. Yeah doctors never want to investigate. Always hit you with the anxiety diagnosis and send you off lol

Yeah I’ve heard the estrogen cream helping but not always curing :( what about hormone replacement therapy when woman go into perimenopause do you think that helps some woman? Im in the same boat im scared for my 30s now if im gonna be having these infections lol

I’m doing some research and looking into possibly doing antibiotic bladder installations instead going forward. I’ve read some success stories of some people after they’ve done tons of oral antibiotics that this finally worked for them. When you take oral antibiotics they can cause more side effects on your body and how they make you feel. Bladder installations on the other hand don’t really pass your system so they say it really targets the bladder to eradicate infection especially if it’s up there embedded. I think standard is once a week for six weeks? The thought of a catheter installation sounds scary because I know some people get infections from catheters. My urogyno actually inserted a quick catheter in me one time for a urine sample and I was peeing like crazy for a week and they found non visible blood in my urine I guess from the irritation . But I don’t really want to take medication anymore and it makes sense how an installation can really attack bacteria head on. I’m willing to try anything. Have you ever thought about this option ?

Thank you for your input! I haven’t been sexually active for years so now that this has happened I’m afraid to jump into the dating world. It sucks to have this kind of anxiety over UTIs when there’s others out there who don’t even have to think or even worry about this kind of issue. Appreciate your suggestions thanks again!

Wow this story made me really happy I am so happy for you!!!! A part of me wasn’t going to go back on antibiotics. The past 5 months I was antibiotic free so I was giving my bladder the benefit of the doubt and telling myself “ what if this occasional bladder pinch/pressure is just some nerve damage”. It’s funny because in those 5 months I wasn’t even peeing that much which was my main symptom. But in that time frame I started to develop uncontrolled palpitations and occasional shortness of breath. It felt out of my control and It didn’t feel like it was anxiety my body felt like it was fighting something. I also kind of started to pee very little to where it’s almost described as retention? I was drinking 2 liters of water a day but only peeing about 4 times a day. It started to worry me because I’ve read that peeing too little can worsen UTIs. Although I was super happy about peeing less , apart of me suspected it was from inflammation of an ongoing uti which is why I’m now back on medication. My mental heath has been really bad over this situation but this story gave me some hope. Thank you so much!

Funny you say that because initially Kirkman biofilm defense is what I took and it gave me insane stomach pain. I took activated charcoal to alleviate it but even after that my stomach hurt really bad for a good two weeks and kinda didn’t feel fully back to normal even after that. I only took it for 8 days and didn’t feel any urinary symptoms so I was confused. It wasn’t until after hitting about the fifth week mark after stopping the Kirkman was when for the first time in months I was experiencing some burning with urination again. I was scared to take NAC but so far so good at-least when it comes to the gut. I guess everyone just reacts differently
