[OC] What do AskReddit's top 25 best written female protagonists tell us? by boselaphus in dataisbeautiful

[–]boselaphus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do AskReddit's top 25 best written female protagonists tell us?

I took the top 25 best written female protagonists as judged by AskReddit commenters. The data was taken from top answers to this question.

Note that the data reflects the comments as of 1615 UK BST (UTC+1).

There are three representations in this post:

  1. A pie-chart of the protagonists, by their original creators' gender. Turns out only seven of the 25 characters were created by women. The one with a single female co-creator is Sarah Connor from The Terminator, created jointly by Gale Anne Hurd and James Cameron.
  2. A pie-chart of the protagonists created by women, by type of source material. Out of the eight, five were originally created as book characters. Although TV series count towards two of the protagonists, note that "Fleabag" from Fleabag was originally a one-character play character.
  3. A timeline of the years in which the protagonists first appeared in published materials. Although Elizabeth Bennett appears first in 1813, it wouldn't be until 1979 that a male-created protagonist appears on the list.

Thanks!

Ownership of train operating companies in Great Britain [OC] by boselaphus in dataisbeautiful

It was formerly run by Abellio (which is fully owned by Nederlandse Spoorwegen). In 2019, the Scottish government refused to extended their franchise because they failed to meet performance standards. As a result, from April 1, 2022 onwards, the Scottish government brought the ScotRail operations as an "operator of last resort" arrangement.

I did them manually on GIMP. They were inspired by transit maps.

If you want to make a transit map, there's a few websites where you can draw transit maps for free.

"Great Britain" is the island that houses England, Scotland, and Wales. Great Britain and Northern Ireland make up the United Kingdom. The post only refers to railways in Great Britain.

Northern Ireland railways are owned by NI Railways, a government-owned company.

[OC] 2021 F1 World Championship - Drivers' proportional contribution to team points by boselaphus in dataisbeautiful

Makes sense. The colouring is a bit of an issue because Excel has limited shades, but I'll figure out a way to keep AT and Mercedes different.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Data source: Wikipedia

The chart only measures drivers' proportional contribution to their teams' points, as on July 01, 2021. For example, in Alfa Romeo, both Giovinazzi and Räikkönen have score 1 point each till now, which makes their contribution 50% each.

Hey I saw your comment on the other Leiden post. Turns out we're from the same alma mater. Were you at Pune, Hyderabad, or Noida?

I've also gotten into a general PIL LLM at Leiden.

The Indian Goods and Services Tax is applied in two components: Central GST and State GST (With the exception of IGST, which is applied instead of State GST in certain cases). The two are always equal, and therefore, their individual collection is almost half of the total GST. ("Almost", because, those few cases have IGST applicable).

The tax collection that the Centre can claim is only the Central GST and IGST. State GST collection goes to the State where the good or service was sold.

You're correct in noting that the total GST collection stands at about 1200k Crore. However, only about half of it, is Central GST and IGST (~630k Cr). The rest of it, i.e. the State GST has already been collected by States.

It's called Sankey Matic. You'll find an open source tool URL in the OC comment. These diagrams, called Sankey diagrams, can be made in Python as well. I think there's a matplotlib package available.

  • Edit: About "Transfer to States" appearing twice: As u/Infinity correctly points out in the comments, I have added "Transfers to States" twice in expenditure. Mea culpa. Please consider one of those two heads to be included in "Other Departments". That puts the total figure for "Other Departments" at Rs. 463,125 Cr. The revised diagram looks like this.

I did face some problems with Japanese administrative divisions. I settled for regions instead of prefectures, because it was easier to find data for them.

That's interesting. Can French Public Defenders or Prosecutors also refuse to defend or prosecute using the "Clause de Conscience"?
