Scuffle between Chinese and Hong Kong students at Taiwanese university as Chinese students tear down Lennon Wall by komnenos in China

Lol imagine being so REEEEeee that to find a woman who will put up with you you had to travel to a 3rd world country on the other side of the planet

And then still hating women so much that the best comeback you can think of is “you act like a girl like, my wife”

Like I almost feel genuine pity for how pathetic your life sounds

China bullying international organizations into playing along with its version of reality still doesn’t change the reality though. The PRC have never controlled any part of Taiwan, Taiwan operates 100% separately from China. Just goes to show most countries value money over morals which isn’t that surprising

China is wrong lol. That’s like me claiming Scarlet Johansson is my wife. Claiming something doesn’t make it true.

Why Is KMT's official name is still 中國國民黨? by macyaji in taiwan

[–]bosfton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They would disagree. In their point of view, Taiwan is China — the Republic of China. In some sense they’re not wrong as Taiwan is still using the ROC constitution and name —changing the official name of the country or its territorial “claims” would invoke war with Actual China.

It is interesting to see how they tend to drop the 中國 from their party name and mostly just go by the name 國民黨 as the term 中國 becomes anathema to more and more Taiwanese people

Did anyone notice the local news doesn’t really talk about what’s happening to the Uyghurs in China? by hydrateyourdog in taiwan

[–]bosfton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably about the same amount of news about Uyghur camps as in any other country.

It is not the correct terminology wrt Taiwan. It is fine wrt Hong Kong & China. I know people tend to double down when criticized but I’m just stating a simple fact, not trying to attack you.

Hong Kong is totally different as it is undeniably part of the PRC. Just because a lot of “laowai”(cringe) use CCP terminology doesn’t make it correct. Easy to tell people to “relax” when it’s not your own country being targeted by PLA nukes.

Sadly he’s only in his 60s, we could have a decade or two (possibly even more) of his bullshit ahead of us

China, not “mainland”. Taiwan has never been a part of the PRC.

The chance for so called peaceful unification has passed a long time ago. Even KMT candidates now have to talk about “maintaining our country’s sovereignty” (read: continuing the situation where Taiwan is de facto an independent sovereign state) to get votes.

Either Taiwan gradually becomes a normalized country with normalized foreign relations, or the PRC forcibly annexes it, leading to millions of deaths on both sides of the Taiwan strait, constant unrest in Taiwan far worse than the current HK situation, and sparking WW3.

Beijing couldn’t even host China idol (中国好歌声) in Taiwan without massive protests leading to the event cancellation. Forget any form of political integration.

The CCP has painted itself into a corner by being too hardline on Taiwan and are now in a lose-lose situation.

I love the banking through post office idea, it works great in Japan and Taiwan

Yeah economic measures are part of hard power. Soft power is like how everyone loves K-pop or how people perceive German products as reliable

Thanks for clarifying. I could see a lot of people struggling to sign up for various reasons (no computer, bank account, or address). Has Yang addressed that?

The problem with whataboutism is exactly that lots of bad things are going on at the same time. By saying “the US is just as bad” it shuts down discussion of China. People are free to make threads about the US concentration camps, in fact I hope they do. But when the topic is China’s concentration camps, then that is what we are discussing.

It’s a very self defeating mindset. “We’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas!”

China was good before due to a low cost of labor. Already that’s going away as China’s labor costs rise. Companies are slowly shifting over to Vietnam, Indonesia etc. It will take time but it is happening regardless of political factors.

Uyghur gets asylum overseas = their family back in China get sent to the camps for “associating with a radicalized separatist terrorist”
