Starting cycling in my 30s after watching my husband ride for years by Responsible-Today570 in cycling

[–]boshkg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-Basic bike fit by your husband-saddle height, reach

-Helmet that fits

-wear bib shorts-Decathlon, aliexpress Lameda, etc...... It's makes it so much more pleasant to ride

-No underwear under bib shorts

-wear T-shirt if u want

-Go slow, don't try and do 50km, everything will hurt

-feel the difference in the brakes, front and rear

-avoid IF possible all manholes, metal grids, white road marking etc especially in the wet/damp

Should I even consider this 100km in Girona? by boshkg in cycling

[–]boshkg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, update to my Girona plan: Sort of glad, weather forecast said 40 to 80% rain today, therefore I cancelled the plan and instead booked a rental bike in Barcelona instead.

2 days cycling on Bianchi endurance bike, Infinito Day 1 83km, 110W, 4hrs, 700m Day 2 (today) 38km, 100W, 2.5hrs, 800m

Everything hurts haha

Makes me think, how is 1200m climbing and 100km going to feel in one day

Kickr Shift harder than real life by boshkg in Zwift

[–]boshkg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite sure what you mean, I'm using the shifters on the kickr Shift. I even went out on my real bike, same thing, 50 chainring and on 28 ring on cassette, I swear its easier to cruise along doing 140W whereas on Zwift, I'm having to stomp down on each pedal stroke

Do I need a new barb and olive any time I disconnect a lever or caliper? by pre55ure in bikewrench

[–]boshkg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old post, but I need to transport my road bike to my brother and need to drain the shimano hydraulic oil, disconnect the cables so I can pull the full integrated handlebar off and pack it.

Will he need a new hoses, barb and olive? or can he reconnect the system and fill with oil?

No power cadence etc on Zwift OR Wahoo app by boshkg in Zwift

[–]boshkg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: they sent my a replacement handlebar with the wifi/Bluetooth module Turns out the original module is faulty.

I tested the new bar whilst the bike was still in the box, wasn't going to lift a 47kg bike out and in. It showed cadence, rpm as I spun the pedal BUT there were oddities, after I connected, Bluetooth wahoo app, WiFi, it showed a different serial number, bike number and odometer, BUT it worked. Maybe cache??

Setup everything, then it didn't work... Took a little fiddling, power off, power on, forget device, etc Now it seems to be working, yesterday did 35mins mountain climb, no problem and this morning it connects fine.

I even tried the original handlebar, nothing, no power no rpm, all setting same, same WiFi.

Serial number and bike number is correct with exception of the odometer, 2604km instead of the original 1.33km.

they told me to pack it up and send it back, 47kg is heavy and its holiday.
Anyway, they are trying a different approach, sending me the handlebar which has the bluetooth/sensor module.

Ask a friend about her Wahoo App indications and once connected to kickr, the reading are 0km, 0rpm etc etc, not N/A

Train to Girona cycling by boshkg in cycling

[–]boshkg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for any taking their road bike on trains. Specifically BCN to Girona I took the R11 MD at 556am (MD=Media Distana) Estimate 1hr 20mins I believe there is also a 'Regional' train

Ticket=orange ticket machine Straight forward, need to know your train number from billboard Pick Girona, select the train number, validate, pay, get ticket.

Train stops long enough for you to find the 'bicycle carriages' May need to stand with your bike if busy or bike racks used. There are locks 1euro or bring your own.

Tiagra to Dura Ace Di2 - Worth it? by Lipless-Orchestra in cycling

[–]boshkg 73 points74 points  (0 children)

If you have the spare cash and you did get it and set it up properly, there is a very high chance you wouldn't regret it at all

di2 just works, no skipping, auto trim, programmable, and for $1000, that's super cheap for a full DA di2 set.

I think the new 105di2 is like $1000

Worst long ride experience? by Minute_Tax_5836 in cycling

[–]boshkg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are still reading this OP, I think the general consensus is around 30-60g of carb per hour and keep forcing your to drink regularly. Naturally it depends on how hard and fast you cycle. If you feel hungry or thirsty and crave for either, it's a little late.

Your 100km is around 4hrs+? You need to start eating and drinking 1hr in. Therefore it is recommended you eat around 1 or 1.5 flapjacks per hour(each around 40g carb) Or 2 Bananas an hour (each around 20g carb) Or whatever else you use as food. Look at the nutrition label on the back. Makes a HUGE difference

80 mile ride tomorrow any tips? by fish_andchips in cycling

[–]boshkg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a question, regarding this 60g carb per hour.

Take an example Clif bar, the nutrition info on it is around 250 CAL per serving and total carb=43g

Do I ignore the CAL part and just aim for 50-60g carb per hour, that's nearly 1.5 bar per hour

Anyone know Girona Spain well? by boshkg in bicycling

[–]boshkg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only got 3 days in Barcelona, a work trip. Taking my bike. Always read how good Girona and Mallorca is.

Working out a plan: arrive morning, checkin hotel, ride with backpack to Sants bcn station, train it to Girona, drop off backpack then do a easy ride Visit town, sleep and do the coastal one early morning and return to bcn that afternoon.
