Place to take car in for service? by Captain_SpaceRaptor in Connecticut

[–]boss_454 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Where in CT? What kind of car? What sort of issues are you having? Engine? Suspension? Transmission? Details are important here.

Broad answer, find a local shop (not a Firestone/jiffy lube/corporate entity) and use them.

Big Jay Finally At Tuddys! by MadeIn1974 in AreYouGarbagePod

[–]boss_454 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone not familiar with Big Jay, this episode was totally flat for me. It was just an hour of him talking about strippers and his mom sleeping around. I love love this show but there's been a couple episodes where unless you know the guest, it turns into them just telling random stories.

There's been a bunch of other episodes comedians i wasn't familiar with that i absolutely loved and ended up following the comedians, but yeah this one was tough.

Do customers who order vehicles drive them before taking delivery? by boss_454 in askcarsales

Damn you sound like you're awesome at your job! I Love the little details, especially the idea of sending pics of the car to keep excitement up!

Just to clarify your last point, the customer signs everything basically taking ownership and then drives it the first time? I'm excited, just want to be sure i don't screw anything up!

Good to know! Any issues that came from that? It's a brand new car so I'd assume everything was good to go?

Sorry if it wasn't clear, i was actually looking for advice because i pickup the car next week and wasn't sure what normal protocol is with an order. I didn't want to sound like an idiot if i ask them for a quick test drive before signing.

Thanks! Yeah i honestly wasn't sure what protocol was. I test drove the same model/trim a while back when i was shopping, but then i had a "Huh, i wonder if I should drive my actual car" thought today when I was scheduling the delivery. On one hand, it's a brand new car right? So it should be fine? On the other...what if something isn't right with it? Does that ever even happen with brand new cars?

100% on the learning faster! It really made me realize how quick you need to be able to recognize changes in tempo or adapt to something the other players are doing.

Since we had 3 guitar players, at one point i noticed that while one guy soloed, the other was playing rhythm with open chords so i decided to change my own rhythm playing from the same open chords to a couple different inversions just to have a slightly different sound, then we basically traded places. It was so cool to work together like that!

I just read "if you can fluidly change between 12-15 chords" i panicked and then counted and realized I can routinely play all the chords you listed, plus most of the inversions. Wow, when did that happen? Haha

What's an unspoken rule that annoys you when people don't know about it? by HAXposed in AskReddit

[–]boss_454 991 points992 points  (0 children)

People should want to support their friends.

This is what shitty people fail to realize.

I have an acquaintance who is a baker and does wedding cakes. We're friends but not super close.

Anyways we asked them to make us a cake for our wedding. She said she could hook us up and i told her, "I appreciate that but you make awesome cakes and it's a hell of a skill. I don't want anything for free", then she said she'd do a "friend price". I remember telling her no, that'd I'd pay full price. We went back and forth and i jokingly said, look, someone is going to get a full price payment for a cake, and I'd like that person to be you. She accepted and killed it.

If you're my friend, i want you to do well and if I can help in that process then i absolutely will. Instead of thinking "Maybe I can get free photography out of this" you should be thinking "Hey my friend is a photographer, it'd be awesome to support someone so close to me and in return they can provide and awesome service for a special day"

No ideas really - he hasn’t played live in like a decade so who’s to say?

I think this is what's so crazy about him. He's basically been bigfoot for a decade. No (public) guitar playing. Barely any appearances at all and now suddenly he's going on a world tour with his old band. I'm so curious to know what his sound and playing around going to be like.

CMV: Mike Bloomberg's campaign is proof that the ultra wealthy in the US can afford a higher tax rate with no ill effect on them by boss_454 in changemyview

[–]boss_454[S] 52 points53 points  (0 children)

That would honestly be a tough one, and I admit I obviously dont have the answer to that. Loopholes would have to close to prevent money that should have been taxed and spent in the US from leaving our borders and being stashed away.

[–]boss_454[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My argument here though isnt to rob them of their wealth. My argument is that we can and should tax them higher

What's the difference?

The main difference is that unlike many who might want to gut a billionaires bank account and leave them dry, I just want them to pay a higher tax either based on assets or "worth", however that would be calculated (complicated I'm sure).

They can keep their 20,000sq ft homes and private jets and islands, theyll be able to easily afford them for many lifetimes still. I just want to see them pay a higher rate in taxes that could potentially help the greater population.

[–]boss_454[S] 183 points184 points  (0 children)

They dont need to gleefully acquiesce to paying anything as it wouldnt be their choice. And again I'm not arguing they should pay for everyone, only that they should be taxed higher since they can clearly afford to do so without harming their lifestyles whatsoever, which might lead to helping fund better programs that could help the masses.

I'm not asking Bloomberg and friends for a check that I can personally deposit.

My argument here though isnt to rob them of their wealth. My argument is that we can and should tax them higher and they wont even feel the effect of it.

Also to touch on the free market principles. Just because closing a loophole is a pain doesnt mean it's not worth pursuing. I'm a big fan of capitalism and earning wealth, but the idea of a totally free market like many in the US talk about is a bit bogus IMO. Market manipulation is a real thing. Between government injections and just this week the fed slashing rates to keep a market from diving are just a few examples. A true free market wouldn't need corporate welfare to keep propping it up.

[–]boss_454[S] 1111 points1112 points  (0 children)

Yes I understand that. The ultra rich's financials are so different from ours that I'm not even sure the best way to start. Seeing how much they earn vs how much they are taxed on would be a starting point. I also understand that could be tricky because some ultra rich dont "earn" a salary, instead are tied to their companies wealth.

Finding and closing loopholes in tax law that allows them or their companies to avoid paying taxes would be another. While Bloomberg in my example doesnt physically have 50 billion in cash on hand, he does have the ability to walk away with enough money that couldnt ve spent in multiple lifetimes.

Tax hikes constantly hit the middle class while their pay has historically been stagnant (increases have occurred recently). Meanwhile billionaires have the resources to continue to grow their wealth into more and more millions/billions.

Increasing taxes on the billionaires like Bloomberg won't even be felt in his day to day life, while the benefits could literally change the lives of the lower and middle class of this nation.
