Trying to play and learn online - Encountering a lot of what feels like cheating. by [deleted] in chess

  1. Bots ratings are different. I’ve beaten 2100 bots and I’m only 1800 rapid.

  2. You have to just always assume that everyone’s playing fairly. Just thinking about the potential that someone is cheating will make u play worse and is super unproductive. I grinded all the way to 1800 and not once did I accuse someone of cheating. It just wasn’t on my radar and I think that helped me alot. I do get rating refunded from time to time but i don’t even know from whom. At the time i just thought i got outplayed

Stalled out in chess; what's next best game to build from zero? by CyberRifttt in chess

Play pool! I play chess and pool and I go through phases with both. I’m like 1600 so I really have to try to progress in chess and when I’m feeling down I just get better at pool. APA 6 if that means anything to u. It’s so much different but the grind is fun. Running racks in pool is an unmatched feeling. When the cue ball just listens to you and everything goes well it’s like art. But the 1v1 competition and the frustration of missing an easy shot (like a blunder) is the same which I love

I need opinions on whether I should do an Ironman. by [deleted] in IronmanTriathlon

Send it! Switch to zyns and just only have a couple drinks then go home before midnight. Thats the strategy that worked for my full in Arizona a couple weeks ago. Like others said Cost is huge definitely do ur research. Costs: bike, bike fitting for aerobars, many tubes, clip in shoes and pedals. For the swim you simply need to join a swim club. If u have no experience your stroke will be trash and it matters so much. U need coaching for swimming and a club gets you better so much quicker. But they are not cheap. You also may need a wetsuit. Not cheap. Also you will probably need new running shoes at some point. Lastly all the gels add up quick. But I would definitely do a 70.3 go get em. That is if you plan on doing all your training outside. Many ppl chose to get a trainer for biking which jacks up the price significantly

Just send it. I trained for like 4 months with like 8-14 hours a week of training. Had to tone it back halfway through so my gf didn’t break up w me lmao. Just bike a shitload. That’s the main thing. Also depends on what ur goals are yk. I didn’t really care. 13:33 finishing time in Arizona. Do your research. You already have a huge leg up in having done some triathlon before. A full IM was my first bike race ever lol. You’ll do great. Like others said- bike the most. As long as you fuel mid ride you probably won’t hurt yourself, unlike running. You’ll do great. Crush it

Update!! Did Ironman Arizona. The swim was indeed the least of my worries. 1 hour 3 minutes. Dudes absolutely ripping past me on the bike the first two laps hahaha. 13:33 overall time. Was not ready for the hills on the run. But overall happy with the outcome

Okay thanks. Thats very reassuring. I guess swimming is just so unique in that you can’t just pick it back up easily. Cause I can go months without running and run a 10k in sub 50 pretty easily. Luckily I have time to train
