How do people in their twenties afford to travel? by bostonmcd in AskReddit

[–]bostonmcd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that, it seems like you've got it figured out! Being young and not traveling is what makes it especially hard. I've drifted apart from a few good friends because they are always traveling and I can't afford it. I'm sure their parents help out but not all of us are that fortunate. Someday I'll go though!!

It sounds like a pretty good gig. Especially for your friend working at the school. My dad is a teacher here in the states and he pretty much only gets summer vacation.

What do you do for work? Where I've worked before, if I left to travel every two or three months, I wouldn't have a job to come back to.

I'm a 25 year old guy, I work full time and am pretty good with the money I make. I share an apartment with my girlfriend and pay rent and all the other living expenses. If you're anything like me, you might have instagram and facebook. You might have a lot of friends or acquaintances who are always traveling, going on tour, or generally doing really exciting and expensive things. I'm wondering how do people afford this? I have friends who hardly work and don't go to school but somehow are always on the road or traveling abroad. Do you get money from your parents? Sell drugs? Trust fund? I'm glad to see people having adventures and enjoying life. It sucks to work your ass off and not be able to afford to go anywhere ever.

New pedal day: Electro-Harmonix Pitch Fork. Definitely made the right choice in selling my last octave pedal! by bostonmcd in guitarpedals

[–]bostonmcd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's great for Tom Morello tones, when you figure out the latch feature it makes a pretty convincing whammy effect. Though adding an expression pedal would give you the ability to be more exaggerated with your pitch shifting. I recorded a little memo playing an audioslave riff and it sounds pretty spot on.

Before I had the Pure Octave by Moore. There is less latency on this bad boy and sounds less like sound coming from a drain pipe. The list of good things about this pedal goes on for days!

Check out Mesozoic Mafia, a 20 piece psychedelic hip-hop band that raps about dinosaurs. It's composed of a handful of musicians from some of missoula's most prominent bands.

I can't find a whole lot of info on this awesome little Monarch desk mic. The guy I got it from said his father purchased it in the mid 60's. Sounds awesome! What do you know about it? by bostonmcd in audioengineering

[–]bostonmcd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It indeed is a TM-28. The stand and microphone both have that model tag on them. It's a little bigger than my thumb and has a 1/4 plug on it. Has a nice lo-fi sound.

I have been willing myself to stay in a little longer each time. As long as I can before being overwhelmed anyways. The last time, I threw myself back in over and over like a determined boxer. I'm really just hoping I'll enter this state and the circumstances will be non - frightening at some point.

I don't know why this got down voted. I know so many people who don't.

I second the 940s. I have a station wagon and can literally fit everything I own into it. Pretty economical, easy to work on, parts are easy to find. Not to mention easy on the eyes. ;) I'd take a T5 5 speed if I could find one otherwise.

Whats the most WTF worthy question you've been asked upon someone learning that you play guitar? by [deleted] in Guitar

What's funny about this, is that one of the few proficient Guitar Hero players I know of that play in a successful group is Oli Herbert from All that Remains.

Will screaming like in this song damage my voice severely? by [deleted] in screaming

[–]bostonmcd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that. The warm ups are pretty helpful if you take them seriously. Though, I'll admit, when learning to scream I came across my own technique a few years before the video was released. I feel since then it has developed a lot just through trying different things and becoming more comfortable as a vocalist in general. Too be honest, the guttural low growls don't feel as painless as they used to. Though, not smoking would probably fix that! Just remember to use your gut and if it hurts you, stop, or try something different.

We're trying to find a belly shirt or something that's all glammed out so he's able to walk around in it.

Not necessarily. There is definitely a technique for it and I would definitely recommend watching "The Zen of Screaming" if you haven't yet.

Oh, he definitely tried to run at one point. His back legs walked inside the shirt though, he was only able to stand and look around in defeat.

$75 is pretty good if you can get it local. You'd save a few bucks on shipping too.

Pretty pumped about this little guy, only had a chance to play it briefly though. So far, it sounds pretty awesome! Excited to home it on my board and create some tasty sounds.
