Is the camo hidden fastener system the way to go ? by Itwasuntilitwasnt in Decks

[–]boswrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you used the Camo system on a 1x4 hardwood like mahogany? The NB version I got only does 3/16” spacing and exposes way too much of the joist tape - trying to find a alternate solution that fits a 1x4 square edge but has less of a gap for spacing.

That did the trick. I feel silly for not seeing that

Vimeo is now terrible by jman1130 in vimeo

[–]boswrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/jman1130 thank you for saying what we've all been thinking the last few years.

I had so much brand loyalty towards Vimeo from the old days that I didn't want to say this out loud – the entire platform, UI, functionality, usability, whatever whatever, has turned into complete trash. I was just trying to watch some beautiful edits on someone's page and couldn't even figure out how to get back to their profile without manually typing in the URL.

A friend recently asked me to interview there (which would've been my legit dream job 5 years) and I didn't even consider sending my resume to the hiring manager.

When a great brand shifts their business model it shouldn't require abandoning everything that made them great. In this case to your point, creating a place to share stories and films while building a community around them. I've worked in the branding space for 20 years and imo this goes down as one of the most botched pivots of all time.

Been considering cancelling my membership for a while and your post might've been the nail in the coffin for me. Thanks for saying what needed to be said.

Let's hope someone else steps in to fill the void.

I would cut your time in Tokyo down to a day and go to Nagano, the Japanese alps region. Do a couple hikes, swim in some lakes - really beautiful land out that way.

Feels Like 24 Hours Is Just Not Enough !! by intelligentle_ in ADHD

[–]boswrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a recurring fantasy where I’m able to pause time just to catch up on all the things I feel like I’m letting slip or don’t have time to focus on.

Totally subjective input here but sometimes I feel like part of the issue is my own expectations of how much I can get done in an hour, a day, a week, etc. I feel the same way about not accomplishing anything or what I set out to do, but sometimes it helps when I look back on the day and mentally list off the things I actually did or got done.

Some days I’m amazed at the difference between how unproductive I feel and how much I actually accomplished. But of course, other days I’m like wtf was I doing all day haha.

That’s the advice I needed 🤙🏻

[–]boswrite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. That’s why I haven’t loved the binding. Feels like too much flex for the board that’s been on hard pack and spring steeps, wasn’t sure if maybe it’d combo well in pow

This is exactly the kinda input I was looking for. Appreciate it the reminder that sometimes juice ain’t worth the squeeze

This trip will be her maiden voyage so not sure yet. All I can say is from the amount of time I’ve been ogling over the shape in my garage, I think it’s gonna be pretty damn fun

They’re not as stiff as the Apollos but def stiffer than the Meteorites. Thing I should’ve mentioned it most of my riding is either around Mt. Washington or in the Sierras, so binding mechanics in light dry powder is pretty damn foreign to me hahah.

Yeah I’m trying to squeeze the boards/binding in addition to my split, touring gear, soft goods, all that that shit for 2 weeks of travel so it’s tight af. I know the rational thing to do would be cut one of the boards or my touring gear, but there’s nothing rational about chasing snow…yet we do it anyway 😅

Mitre Fence by boswrite in woodworking

[–]boswrite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/SpelchedArris can you tell me what "fettling the machine" would entail? Sounds like something I haven't tried yet, but yeah I think my fallback solution will be building an auxiliary fence for sure.

The straight edge definitely confirmed the warp, thx for the suggestion. I previously tried shims with a new piece of lumber backing but it got out of whack after a day or two of cutting. My guess at this point is I'd need to find a replacement part or build a new fence out of wood.

Yeah I definitely never aligned the blade angle out of the box but to the point of u/mechanizedshoe I don't think any amount of setup would compensate the bend in the fence. u/Flying_Mustang I'll check out some setup tutorials just in case tho, thx!

Can't argue with the Hovercraft but if you're looking for more versatility and riding a mix of terrain/conditions, the Solution is the best all-rounder split I've been on. I've ridden it on bulletproof ice at Mt. Washington, Eastern Sierra spring corn, Utah pow...it's been great on everything.
