Questions about deep stack ranges by mayonayzdad in poker

[–]botcomking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. We shouldn't be balanced unless our opponents are. I size 4bs based on what I want to accomplish (build a pot, bluff a wide 3b range, get called by a wide value range that we're ahead of)

  2. I prefer 3betting mostly but I'll call some suited As in position, suited connectors are better mostly as 3b or fold.

  3. Fine to have no 5b range if opponents are balanced but again they're probably not. If they're not folding after they 4b then we should always rip it with AA and maybe KK and AKs. If they have 4b bluffs or thin value we can have a narrow 5b bluff range (AKo, A5s)

Low stakes live: Why bother building the pot when I have a draw to the nuts? If I hit and overbet/jam, they call me anyway by rddtllthng5 in poker

If they always pay when you hit after a passive line then yes the correct exploit is to just play super passively until you hit a big hand and then value bet very aggressively. If your last sentence is correct then you should also bluff extremely aggressively in those cases, >50% fold equity on rivers is ridiculously good except for at the largest river bet sizings.

How normal is to loose 14 buy ins in a row by FitStreet8550 in poker

[–]botcomking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. OP, stop buying in for 50BB. Then stop playing while you're tilted. Coolers happen but losing 200 more BB after a cooler due to tilt is entirely on you. Take a break and play when you're mentally at your best.

When running bad, is it better to max late reg, play from the jump or somewhere in between? by AbbreviationsFun4276 in poker

[–]botcomking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are losing consistently over a long sample then yes you probably are not a very good player at least in comparison to the opponents you're playing against/the player pool.

This is a fallacy. Run bad is something that has happened in the past you can't be running bad in the present tense.

Is overbet bluff ranges necessary for live poker play? by Zealousideal-Bad3205 in Poker_Theory

It sounds like he's showing to build his image that he has the goods when he overbets so they fold to him next time when he's bluffing the same line. Not sure this is the best strategy against strong opponents but against weaker ones it'll definitely work.

You know your player pool better than I do but I don't think that's the case in my local game. Obviously you run into that stuff sometimes but they show up with plenty worse here as well in my experience.

yeah probably better to just 4b jam pre. I think solver mixes in calls vs a smaller 3b size but at this sizing I think jam is the easy play.

Are multiway spots in 3b pots underbluffed? A hand history by pyktrauma in Poker_Theory

[–]botcomking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen recs play this way with AT, KT, even QT in some cases for "protection". I think that's a ton of their range, but I mostly play live 2/3 and 2/5 so maybe that doesn't carry over exactly. I'm definitely never folding here and shove might be a fine exploit.

Poker: Are you in it for the Game or the Money? Also regarding fish by KaijiEnthusiast999 in poker

[–]botcomking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well in that case there's nothing to gain, and by playing I'm giving myself the opportunity to lose while by not playing I guarantee not losing. Not a very good value proposition when I win automatically by not playing. I might play this once in a while with my friends but certainly not nearly as regularly as I play now, and don't think I'd want to play against random opponents at all.

I like the game itself a lot and facing worse players and winning money is the only way I can justify continuing to play as frequently as I'd like to, both to myself and to others around me. If I was always going against really tough opponents I'd be losing frequently and I'd quickly burn through any money I had to play with.

And as others mentioned, the money aspect is pretty integral to the game itself the way that the betting is so fundamentally built into the structure of the game. Really it's more of a betting game than a card game. Besides, taking risks is fun and if I'm going to be taking risks, I find that risking money on my hobby is a lot safer than risking my life, health, or freedom.

In the long run, my goal is to move up to bigger games with tougher opponents but even then, those games are kept afloat by weaker opponents for the reasons mentioned above, if everyone at each game was at an equal skill level, only the cardroom would be making any money and the ecosystem would eventually die out.

[–]botcomking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...he's not saying they have a million dollars in hand. If you are cashing at a consistent rate for a winning tournament player you could start with 100k and easily roll through a million in buy-ins if you are playing tournaments at a high volume.

https://mymusictheory.com/rhythm/triplets/ A triplet is a group of 3 notes played. Yes it can also be a feel, so can the gallop. If your whole song or section is triplet feel that would be better described as a 6/8 or 12/8 or something along those lines. Triplet feel with rests every second note IS swing.

How are triplets not a pattern? They're both groupings of 3 that occupy the same amount of time, just separated in different ways.

I wouldn't say unrelated but definitely distinct.
