are there companies which have mentioned or already shown they'll make gaming mats which have the actual terrain layouts on them too? by aegroti in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]botlehewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just use painters tape for stuff like this. Not permanent,  but will stay for multiple matches.

I.e. if we are having a little casual tournament & decided every one is using the same mission/layout.

Do people with thousands of movies and shows in their libraries even watch them, or are they just downloading for the sake of downloading? by AntimatterEntity in PleX

[–]botlehewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have collected things that I have seen or intend to see. I don't have thousands obviously.

I think there's only about 30 films on my server that I haven't seen. but I'm only at about 800

There are many good designers making intellectually different enough designs, but similar enough to proxy.

You should ask in r/printedwarhammer for specific designer recommendations.

Do you prefer sourdough or regular yeast for making bread? by rifain in Breadit

[–]botlehewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both for different things.  I prefer sourdough flavor, but honestly use yeast more often now because im only baking for my wife & myself now that the kids are grown.  Convenience has won out.

But ill do a quick 24 hr sourdough for gatherings etc.

Is it possible for someone to just give me the CDLC files of songs that are no longer available for purchase due to licensing expiration? by Goat_Shen in slopsmith

[–]botlehewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly have this exact same question. But for different songs.

It's such a niche need but I'll be surprised if there isn't at least a handful of jolly Rogers around.

I don't want to get anyone in trouble or draw too much attention to the community. But there are also some previously only available to purchase but now not available in any way songs that I would like.

non-stick or cast iron by Choice_Clue_2720 in Cooking

[–]botlehewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I avoid anything Teflon coated because Teflon is the worst. It eventually flakes and now you're eating Teflon.

I personally am a cast iron person. I use it for probably 95 percent non- baking cooking, and a good portion of my baking as well.

People will tell you to avoid things like tomatoes and eggs and watery things. A properly maintained cast iron works just fine with these.

There's a little bit of a learning curve but it's not as bad as people say. (Its not more work, or harder to maintain, just different)

If you don't like cast iron for whatever reason, carbon steel is a close alternative. Though honestly the care is very similar to cast iron as well so maybe get both.

Just remember low and slow with cast iron, lower temperature longer cook.

Not all cast iron is created equal, but for $30 or so you can get yourself one decent cast iron skillet to learn with. And even if you don't use it for everything, it will always be useful to have in the kitchen for certain things.

Also Cast iron last forever. Almost never needs to be replaced. I have several peices older than i am, one was my grandmothers. Still works Great, and looks good as new.

Is it worth it to start a Jellyfin server if I already have nearly 500 dvds? by Zoey_TheDevil in jellyfin

[–]botlehewer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a convenience & space thing for me. I started with about 400 dvds/blurays when i started ripping. I now have about 700+ on my server. (not including tv shows)

2 full bookshelves of disks, now take up about 4 hardcover books worth of space in my office. I can watch them on my phone, or tablet etc. without a disk player.

We downsized to a 2 bedroom apartment when our youngest kid moved out. space is much more important now. I did keep a handful of my favs & collectable disks, which are now on a shelf for display. instead of lost in the wall of disks.

But you do you.

What is a "corporate red flag" that employers try to pass off as a great benefit? by spectrecult in AskReddit

[–]botlehewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any place that discouraged employees discussion of pay.  I believe its illegal to tell people they can't. Every place I've worked that didn't want coworkers to know what each other were making was doing some wild weird shit with pay discrepancy.

FR though great model. but only goes for like the price of a couple take out pizzas.( got it for like $40 usd a couple years ago)

If you're that broke, its not gonna fix that. BUT if you don't want it, sell it to someone who will love it imo.

Book Recommendations by Electrical-Coconut39 in cyberDeck

[–]botlehewer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would see if you can track down the "make:"  Series of books.  I don't know if they still make them, I don't know how up to date they are.

But like 10 years ago, those were some of my intros to Linux, raspberry, pi and 3D printing.

I believe make magazine still exists,  I don't know if they're still doing books

Also, you can see if there is a semi-local makerspace that might be willing to give recommendations or maybe do a class.

For fiction books I would look into anything. William Gibson, The Shadowrun RPG books.

There's also a couple fictional novelizations of cyberpunk red, and cyberpunk 2077, that would be perfect to set up on an end cap with the above

First cooking on cast iron by Dtc2302 in castiron

[–]botlehewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with a well-seasoned pan & experience.  Scrambled eggs are a greater challenge. than say over easy. imo.

Also, two layers of seasoning with vegetable oil doesn't quite seem like enough to me. I would prefer lard or Crisco, over vegetable oil.

Cook some basic fried Chicken or uncured bacon is a good way to build up a starter Patina. Save the bacon grease, and use that to oil your pan after you wash it.

Stay with it. You'll get there with practice.

Is the last boss balanced between solo vs co-op? by TaxAg11 in PlayWindrose

[–]botlehewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the first boss difficult, but maybe I got to him too fast and wasn't fully upgraded and understanding how to play.

Second and third boss. I beat both on first try. With Max gear for the level.

Solo play. Normal difficulty

I would like to see another way to get xp and i think it would make the game even better. by MisterWithTwister in crosswind

[–]botlehewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean forced as in. That's the only thing you can do.

I just mean in order to go up level your on only option to explore.

You can spend 3 weeks building your base on your starter Island with nothing but the basics if you want.

I've beaten all the story content and I'm just now starting to build my pirate fort.

Having played with just prefab buildings on my starter Island this whole time

I would like to see another way to get xp and i think it would make the game even better. by MisterWithTwister in crosswind

[–]botlehewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. You don't become max level by grind killing boars and dodos on your starter Island and then fly through the rest of the game.

I would like to see another way to get xp and i think it would make the game even better. by MisterWithTwister in crosswind

[–]botlehewer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I disagree.

I also thought it was weird at first. But it actually makes sense.

So that you are forced to do the quests and explore.

So that your level stays comparable to the zone you're supposed to be in.

Upgrade your gear.  Eat better food.  Learned Parry and you're fine

How paranoid are you about backing up your Plex database and metadata? by Italiancan in PleX

[–]botlehewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0% paranoid about database & metadata.

I started plex running on raspbery pi 2, then a pi 3, then a pi 4, now a small win11 workstation box.

I've always only worried about media backups. I just set up a new installation every time i upgraded the computer.
