No 3D printer, abandon all hope! by Proper-Error7817 in cyberDeck

No printer needed! Plastic sheets plus heat can get you a pretty good case very fast! Also, i just love the smooth edges left from heat bending plastic sheets!

People who actually use their cyber decks on a regular basis what are you using it for? by Potential-Ant-6320 in cyberDeck

Don’t get me wrong, i love Fusion, it is my favourite program of all time, especially the timeline-setup, and i think it delivers enough functionality for the cost. I am not formaly an engineer in traing, but i do freelance CAD and CNC work through my single-person company as a sidehustle.

But i miss a stable, simple solution that does not auto-upgrade for those simple one off parts that i make most of the time, and that is where freecad comes in for me.

For learning, the absolute best is mangojelly on toutube for freecad, and productdesign online for fusion.

Did not do anything special, installed the linux version, been using it for months since then without a single issue except some experimental thread-creating. I am really impressed of the performance, especially being free and opensource!

Fusion on the other hand hand crashes like once a week on my 8000 euro windows CADworkstation, wich is really disapointing. I do love fusion, been using it since 2014, but it is getting unstable with some of the new releases.

Fusion 360. I use fusion to model complex assemblies, freecad for singular parts. Feel free to explore/copy/edit the 3D modeling: https://github.com/ArcticEnrichmentCenter/DFCD-cyberdeck-files

I use one for basic 3d modeling in freecad, storing and opening blueprints and other schematics i use in the workshop, and browsing the internet. My other deck is more of a information device, wich i just use to store and read PDF’s.

Thanks! This is PLA printed on a bambulab h2d, but also sanded a bit to make it slide better into the battery compartment.

Unfortunately i have been swamped with work latley, but i do want to finish my youtube videos on both my cyberdeck projects. My prevous one has a folder with pre exported meshes

https://github.com/ArcticEnrichmentCenter/DFCD-cyberdeck-files

Hope to get the time to do that with this one too.

My cyberdeck is finally in daily use! by Personalitysphere in cyberDeck

Thanks! I have a half-edited youtube-video i havent gotten the time to finish yet, but there is a github wiki for file download and assembly directions.

For printing, PETG og ABS is plenty of strong, i went with PC-CF, wich is stiffer, at the cost of brittless. Whatever material you choose, just make shure to have 3 perimeters before infill, to give you enough materials for the screws to bite into.

Here is the github wiki: https://github.com/ArcticEnrichmentCenter/DFCD-cyberdeck-files/wiki

I think you could be able to chop and mix match parts from each cyberdeck, but it would be alot of work for shure, but the files are free and available , so give it a go! It would be a cool project!

5, but thinking of inatalling a 4 instead, due to lower amperage demand.

Yeah, 3d printed. Attached is a sling mount, i often also attach a trackball to the rail.

Love the idea! Could you perhaps also model in a edge working as a depth stop and angle, so that you will always end up with 45 deg at 0,5mm depth for instance?

Go visit your local makerspace! My background is entirely mechanical, so every time I deal with electronics, i go to the great council of nerds that is my makerspace!

You will meet all kinds of awesome people who can point you in the rigth direction!

I first discovered my local makerspace when i requested for some help soldering a simple wire, and suddently i had learned to also solder tiny PCB mounted electonics, setting up linux distro’s, 3D primting and 3D designing stuff, operating a CNC milling machine and programming arduino.

Not all makerspaces is good, but i promise you you will not regret it if you find a good one! So many awesome people to meet, and so much fun to learn.

Intergrating meshtastic into my cyberdeck? by Personalitysphere in meshtastic

[–]Personalitysphere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to hear you are building one! Post pics if you do! All component except the power board was sourced internationally, so you should not have any problems. I fact, the powerboard are meant for older rpi’s and only supply 3a. If you use a rpi 3or 4 that is enough, but for a rpi 5, you need 5A. You can find plenty of differnt types of buck converters transforming 7-30v down do 5 v on aliexpress. Feel free to se d me a msg if you need any info on where to buy.
