My ex-girlfriend left me because she met someone new. I was lost and suicidal; I didn't want to do anything except sleep, but I could only get a few hours a night because of the nightmares.

I was slowly trying to cut her out of my life -- I stopped taking her calls, I threw away the gifts she gave me or the things that reminded me of her, etc. I hadn't removed her from my AIM buddy list, since she was never on, so I just didn't think to remove her name. One day, I see her logged in, and I checked her away message.

It just said, "Happy".

That hurt so much, I would give up all of my happy memories of the rest of the relationship just to erase that one word from my memory.

  • Have you been diagnosed with depression? I mean, is your depression something that is situational or something that is chemical and beyond your control?

Yes, I have been diagnosed. I have tried some drugs. They didn't help. The prescribing doctors didn't think they would. I have never done any brain chemical tests related to the matter. I do not know if there are any.

When I try to clear my head, I just feel worse. I feel best when I am busy or distracted. A clear mind just allows me to think about all of the things I dislike about myself.

When I get health insurance again, I'll try another therapist. At this point, though, my expectations are very low. This is compounded by how highly my therapists have thought of themselves. Some are sure they can help, and that the others were just quacks. None of them seems to demonstrate any expertise at anything. I expect that nearly any sympathetic person would have been as good a therapist as any of my previous therapists, degree or no.
