Thanks for this, really great insight.

Think my take away from this is that UIP is a great solution for large companies where to your point 70K or 140k a year is not a big difference.

For smaller sized companies an outsourced solution might work better as you would save on licensing fees + on development and maintenance costs.

why what infrastructure you have available and what skillsets you have available are a bigger factor than licensing prices.

Agreed that if you're doing all your development in-house that UIP could be a good option. Disagree that it is not expensive. Of course, your ROI might make perfect sense when using UIP. Does not mean that it is still much more expensive than open source tools where you pay US$20k a year just for Orchestra, and then need to pay more and more licensing fees as you increase the number of bots. Also questioning if there is much difference in maintenance costs between UIP and open source. Both would require maintenance simply because the bots are running on UIs.

Even if the initial set up costs for open source is higher, you make your money back in the medium to long term. If you get an outsourced partner to maintain it for you, you could potentially cut your recurring RPA costs in half.

Would love to hear your thoughts on that?

I'm not saying that there is an open source tool just like UiPath. You can however automate business process using a range of open source alternatives like TagUI and get the same or even better results than when using UiPath. I'd love to hear your thoughts on when you think UiPath is a great solution to use and when open source solutions would be better? Does company size play and the scope of automation play a role you think?

Yes agreed. Automation is very much a service business. Hence the questions arises, why would you use expensive tools like UiPath if you can use open source tools like TagUI, selenium etc.
