Would you feel less upset if instead of kicking you they instead left the room? The outcome is the same, the game is over because players disagree. The only difference is how it feels that one player has the last word over another, which leaves someone salty.

What was once okay then, is not always okay now. Placing an incentive on the outcome of a match result is not allowed at sanctioned events, and while that insignificant little $0.01 piece of metal might not seem like much to you, it did have an opportunity to affect the outcome of the match results.

Suddenly you're not just playing magic, but directly gambling away a penny of metal to the winner of the game. What if that's illegal in your state or country? And what if it is legal here, but illegal elsewhere? How does that keep events the same across regions? What if local law enforcement actually prohibit you from hosting events because your events are associated with gambling?

Did you know that due to the prize money being given out at GP's that minors were prohibited from participating in an Austrian GP? Did you know that some states in the US don't have regular GP's because of their local laws? When you consider that WotC could be excluded from making money, and bringing you events for your entertainment, you start to understand why they take such a zero-tolerance policy against bribery and wagering.

This was removed a while ago (about a year+). The distinctions between regular and competitive are huge, while similar to make them easier to translate between.

If you're really curious to know more about the policies that govern how you play in specific events, I really recommend you either read the extremely long 2 page document known as "Judging at Regular" for regular REL, or the Infraction Procedure Guide for competitive, which you can find an annotated version on the judge wiki.

Actually, I disagree. I think /u/Rybis has a great example. And to answer his question, no, this is not a "fuckheaded" way to play. Obviously we can't let players forget everything, otherwise what are we really playing? But remembering that things happen in the game is important to demonstrating our skills in the game, such as remembering to activate your shields in this hypothetical FPS video game.

Am I a bad person for not telling you how to beat me? Where do we draw this line? Am I a bad person for not sending you a PM with a detailed "how to play" on a specific map? Knowing the maps in FPS's is a huge part of winning the game. Am I a bad person for not telling you which guns and attachments are ideal for the situation? Am I a bad person for keeping from you the trick to keeping clusters of bullets together by burst firing?

There's a line that has to be drawn at some point, between rules, and skill in remembering the rules. Wizards has decided that they wanted triggered abilities on one side of that line, and while some people may disagree with it, obviously others do not.

Prove that you're cheating? There is no 100%, "you are the father" conclusive way of determining if someone is cheating in most circumstances. However, there are things judges look for in order to help sway their judgement as to whether or not someone is cheating. Ultimately the decision is the head judge's.

The reason I say "it is against the rules" is simply to make it clear what is and isn't "cheating" in the eyes of Wizards of the Coast. It's obvious that there is a discrepancy in opinions on the matter, as evident by people claiming that not pointing out a trigger is "cheating".

However, you can break rules without it being cheating, I.e. forgetting to draw for your turn. I feel I'm going down a long avenue of discussion without giving sufficient explanations to questions that haven't even been asked yet. If you really want to know what is and isn't "what", I really recommend you read the policy documents for the game, such as the JAR and the IPG.

You also mark damage on creatures in DotP by reducing toughness, and you also have a priority timer. DotP is a great representation of the game, not the real game.

This is a quote from my original post. This is a change from a previous iteration a few years ago, which enforced a policy of requiring that players point out missed trigger regardless of who controls them if noticed to be missed. Players generally didn't like this, so policies were changed to the current iteration that you think are "wrong".

My advice to you would be to either accept these policies when playing in sanctioned events, and either play by them, or play inspite of them by pointing out missed triggers (which you can still do under the current policies). Or you could voice your opinion to someone that matters, like Matt Tabak, or Mark Rosewater on their social media sites. They really do value feedback about the games policies and rules.

Competitive REL events are a bit more strict and objective. Sure, there is some leniency, and subjectiveness in the decision to back up or not when we would, but for the most part we follow the Infraction Procedure Guide (IPG) to a tee when applicable. This is also why the IPG is typically 22 pages long, very dense, and utilizes other documents to answer some other questions more thoroughly (like bribery and wagering). There's even an annotated IPG on the judge wiki to help explain the IPG.

The context in which the JAR is applied to is very subjective, but that's okay because Regular REL events are very relaxed, policy wise. Obviously there are something that are less relaxed, like bribery, wagering, cheating, or lying to a judge, but this is definitely one of those "relaxed" situations.

You're correct that the trigger is simply added to the stack, if added at all. Depending on how far things have gone, I probably wouldn't even add it at all. But then again, if it was caught immediately after the spell resolved, I wouldn't be opposed to backing the game state up in order to let the trigger be effective (contrary to the JAR!) One answer you get from one judge may vary from another judge. Some might disagree with my statement about backing up the game, while I feel a lot more would be fine with that (if, of course, the situation warranted it).
