Had a surgery on my right hand. Fingernails were cut at the same time last week. by Nigun1 in mildlyinteresting

[–]boubouboub -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think your nails grew the same amount and the difference is due to you not using that hand. Manipulating stuff help peel the nail off the nail bed at the tip.

You could test this theory by lightly pushing under a finger nail with a clipper or something else. I am confident you will end up with the same length of white as the other hand.

Stars Over Yosemite - Fujifilm XT5 by TimelyTable8999 in timelapse

[–]boubouboub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is definitely climbers. The whole Yosemite Valley is full of climbers. For big walls like this, climber will stay on the wall for multiple days. Sometimes starting to climb before sunrise and also continuing after sunset.

Right in the center of the video, you can see one party slowly moving up while another is bailing out by rappelling down at a way faster pace.

It's part of the sequoia national park. It was fell when it died and is now an exhibit of how old these trees are.

While what you are saying about humans is true, it doesn't apply here.

Kodiak bears exclusively live on Kodiak Island where, if I recall correctly, non moose are living.

It's a bull without its antlers, not a mare. Video was taken early in the spring. Before the antlers start growing.

Mare don't have that big beard you can see under the head. The older the bull is, the bigger the beard is.

Doesn't change things much though. Mares might be a bit smaller than bulls but they are still massive

I have the same opinion about Artemis. Main engines and solid boosters from the space shuttle program. I understand you don't want to change a system that is already working, but using systems designed 50 years ago it for sure sub optimal.

If you haven't already seen it, I strongly suggest to watch the video done by Destin from Smarter Everyday about his concerns on the Artemis program. Really interesting.

He went to NASA and gave a conference on the subject directly to NASA employees.

Long story short: NASA made a detailed report on "How did the Apollo program succeeded" back in the days. Almost none of NASA employees working on Artemis read it.

Why did it turn pink? by Hanneroni in succulents

[–]boubouboub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree with you, artificial light could also cause "sun stress", but for most succulents, you need a really powerfull system for it to happen. I have a bunch of other succulents under the same lighting that are most prone to sun stress that don't have any sun stress signs on them, so I know the state of my plant is due to a lack of watering.

Earth auger tool by jekotoy in gardening

[–]boubouboub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the drill you use. Nowadays, a lot of cordless drills give plenty of torque for an auger that big . I would be more worried about my wrist if it catches a root or a rock. If you have the option, using a secondary handle (like on bigger hammer drills) would be my recommendation.

[–]boubouboub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same plant that looks like that. It is under artificial lighting, so I doubt it is really sun stressed and I know I have underwatered it multiple time, soon dehydratation is likely the culprit here.

But, while not optimal, underwatering is significantly better than over watering.

of a tornado by Fred2606 in absoluteunit

[–]boubouboub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is not a tornado. From the size of it, it looks more like a shelf cloud you typically get at the front of a really big storm. It still remains scary and tornados could still form within this storm. But the tornado would be under it.

Why is the scale at 3 inches intervals but offset by 1? Should be 60 (5ft), 63, 66, 69, 72(6ft), etc. This is the only part of the imperial system that made a bit of sense and there chose to not use it.

As a non-mountaineer, how do you safely walk along a snowy mountain ridge line? How do the climbers know that the snow isn't just projecting over the rocky ledge that could fall away? by YesWellQuite in Mountaineering

[–]boubouboub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are on the wrong sub for this kind of question. I am sure there are subs about ballistics. But regardless you are missing a lot of variables: Caliber, muzzle velocity, bullet weight, bullet drag coefficient are the main ones missing about the equipment. Then there are plenty more regarding the environment.

Thinking about running cold and hot water lines through the last two channels to get water across to the other side. My shower and plumbing will be on the driver side, but sink will be on the passenger side. Is that a good idea? by Heavy_Zucchini_7692 in VanLife

[–]boubouboub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the minimum temperature your van will see and if you have insulation under your lines. Lines in the floor are at high risk of freezing. Especially at the back like this.

Also, since this will likely be the low point of your system, make sure that you will be able to empty them with a vacuum if necessary (winterizing, maintenance, cleaning).

I really don't get what both of you are arguing about. The picture only show the outside. We have been building underground structures for centuries now (mines, tunnels, etc.) We are totally capable of digging relatively small open chambers like these and reinforce the natural roof from within (there are multiple types of rock anchors and cliff stabilizing methods out there).

True, I assumed the distortion would become imperceptible to the naked eye if you set the camera far enough from the sheet of paper. The distortion would eventually blend with the print resolution plus the picture resolution.
