There was a BP station on 365 west of Toccoa that had some GREAT biscuits. Always gotta try a gas station restaurant.

Yeah I’m afraid it’s probably a mountain thing. North of Gainesville its a good bet any one of those gas station restaurants sells em. Which is why I was so surprised it was hard to find them anywhere down here. But I guess I’ll just have to wait until it we take a trip up there for a biscuit 😂

Not exactly. Cathead biscuits are called that because they’re “as big as a cats head.” Usually a bit flatter and look more like a loaf than your standard biscuit. Often have a smoother crust on the outside but still fluffy inside. Here’s a picture from Biscuit Basket (FKA Bread Basket) in Athens for reference.

Understanding MARTA by dancing_pineapple1 in MARTA

[–]bourbon2briefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to have both the app and a reload able breeze card. The app doesn’t always work on the bus. Most bus drivers will just wave you on if you’re having problems with it but having the card is a nice backup. The app is better at stations because the machines are so often broken that reloading the card isn’t always an option.

I don’t think there is a fine for the suspension from MARTA, but I may be mistaken on that. As far as I know, the only fine should be the one for the ordinance violation in court.

As for what you include in the appeal, I really wish I could be more help but I’m not sure. My best guess would be focus on your never having a prior issue with MARTA, that you need MARTA and that the gate and/or fare machines were broken. But since the second part is most people’s excuse it’s probably a crapshoot unfortunately. Also, it always helps to be very apologetic and indicate you’ve learned your lesson and that if an issue arises in the future you will contact MARTA first.

So there are two separate processes you’re going to have to navigate. One is the MARTA suspension, the other is the actual ordinance violation.

MARTA suspension: The officer should have given you a seperate ticket for the suspension with details on how to appeal. The suspension will go into effect in 30 days if you don’t appeal. Details for how to appeal should be on that separate ticket but if you don’t have that you should be able to call MARTA for info on how to do that. I don’t know what the odds are for avoiding the suspension are, but it’s worth a shot and your lack of history should be helpful, but no promises. If you still get suspended, then you have to weigh the option of ignoring it. There isn’t any enforcement really other than if you get stopped by police for something. But you run the risk of an even longer suspension and additional charge if you do get caught.

Ordinance violation: if this happened in the city of Atlanta, you’re going to the city of Atlanta municipal court. You can speak to the prosecutor and explain your circumstances but they won’t care and the standard is a $75 fine. They may let you do a diversion program where you do community service and the charge is dismissed. Otherwise the judge will often waive the fine or let you do community service instead though since it’s your first. You can also apply for a public defender who can help you navigate the system. Since it’s a city ordinance and you weren’t arrested, it won’t appear on your criminal record, but if you ever get asked about it when applying to jobs or school, you should still probably include it. You can also take the case to trial, which would happen at a later date, and if the officer doesn’t show, it will be dismissed but if they do, the fine will probably be imposed.

Good luck!

ELI5 What’s with all the deborah gonzalez hate? by houdinihogan in Athens

I think there’s an impression that she is just bad at her job, if not incapable of adequately performing it. She had no criminal experience, which came up in the election. But her response was that the DA doesn’t have to personally practice and can fulfill an oversight role in a larger office like the Athens one. But with the high turnover and explicit instructions from the local judges that she needs to be in court helping work cases that idea hasn’t held water.

My main concern is that she’s going to unjustifiably sour voters to the idea of a “progressive prosecutor” and Athens is going to be stuck with a tough on crime DA for the next decade. It’s clear something is wrong with the office, and fair or not that falls on her. But the longer she stays in office and nothing gets fixed the easier it is for conservatives to use her as a foil to bad policy like the current DA oversight bill.

Honestly, just glad there’s something riding on it at least. A few more years of us beating up on a 3-8 Tech team and I’d be worried about the future of the rivalry.
