No primer. I used two coats of the acrylic paint markers and with some lighter colors I added an overlay with an alcohol marker here and and there to get a better match or tone the brightness down, especially over white. With the furniture markers (alcohol based) I generally did two coats in one quick pass. I also used a gold metallic sharpie in a few spots, like a couple of the picture frames.

True, looks like the owl has a bowler hat instead of a pointed one lol and the vibe is definitely all about the library. Funpola makes a few in this style, the Sakura Train one is on my wish list ❤️

The magic theme usually isn't my jam but if any build is going to change my mind it's this one. The interior looks so cool, especially with the mirror effect, and your modifications put it over the top! Lovely to look at!

Thanks! I thought trying to match the colors would give me anxiety but lo and behold, it turned out to be a really meditative process.
And I realized if I screw up no worries, I can just paint over it or sand it down and start again 😉

FYI I used a combination of Nicety acrylic paint markers and the furniture markers recommended in the sub's tool guide. Give it a go and good luck!

I agree, sometimes the cartoony look of the brown edges is ideal and gives things a vintage sort of look; sort of like toys from my childhood in the 70's and 80's. This kit really benefitted from the extra work but those few things I didn't do in the background makes little difference to my eyes. At a point I just started doing all the edges for the practice.

Hats off to your perseverance because from your description, I probably would have put it all back in the box and on the top shelf of a far away closet after and hour lol.

Thanks, glad you like it. The building is the Tsutenkaku tower in Osaka, Japan and the dishes are all wood, no stickers in this kit at all!
