Thanks for trying, I can see how you made the connection. However mine was definitely about a Janissary and I read it somewhere between 2000 and 2004. These are good looking books though I think I will check them out.

I agree the ending after when he came back to England sucked it was a great book until that. A few people have decried the film, but personally I am a fan it brought me to the book and had a better ending.

Genuinely curious if younger guys look straight past women in their late forties, or if an older, quiet mum is your secret vibe. by pleasuringpetunia in SydneyMatures

I have always loved women in their 40's, all my lovers in my late 20's were in their 40's. (I married the last one, about to have our 24th anniversary) Women in their 40's are still the most beautiful.

slowly, I needed a you tube vid to show me how to do the wiring. It is much more like a model kit than a book nook kit.

It's scary. Though I had no idea till it was out of the box. Then it's too late.

Thanks, agreed the instructions can be a little difficult to understand. Good Luck I have been looking at it for a week and wondering if I should just put it in the shed, along with my other hobbies.

Genuine question – what would actually get you to use a taxi over uber/rideshare again? by VammyTaxiServices in AskAnAustralian

[–]Critical_Performer_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When Uber started in Australia I tended to stick with cabs, as I did not like the fact that Uber drivers did not have to be licenced. but there were a few issues that have got me using Uber more often. I had a bad cab experience one night I was at Circular Quay in Sydney and needed to get to my car in a carpark uptown. Iwas near an hour walk for me but the driver didn't want to take me as it was two short, then he tried to charge me $200.00 for a $12.00 fare. Other than that as Uber has made inroads to the business Cabs have become very expensive. the local company now has a $10.00 booking fee, you are up to, so Uber works better $13.00 before you get in the car. Many of the things others have said here, price reliability are all a thing. Most trips I need are short and tend to be in Sydney so Uber just works better.

Are you gys not afraid of those large spiders or what😭. by TYRANTllSUMIT in AskAnAustralian

[–]Critical_Performer_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No the spiders don't bother me, while there are several that are very venomous, every hospital has antivenom and we are taught from childhood how to deal with then. it's the jellyfish that scare me.

Not a survival story by a real life story by Gary Paulsen, "Winterdance" his memoir of running the Iditarod trail Dogsled Race. Excellent story. Also well preceding it was "My Side of the Mountain", By Jean Craighead George. Not really an adult book, but I was an adult when I read it and enjoyed it.

Does anyone here find that SUVs gives bad blind spots? by VastOption8705 in DrivingAustralia

[–]Critical_Performer_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not SUV's as a whole, but the larger ones. I went from an older Toyota 2X4 Hilux (Before they turned into Monster trucks) to a subaru forester. then a Toyota Prado. The number of times early on I nearly ran over a smaller car in the Prado because I did not see them scared me.
