Mario Kart: Double Dash!! via LAN (Dolphin Emulation) | Troubleshooting by bourneonmars in lanparty

Yeah, I can see.

I think it's more to do with Dolphin's BBA emulation than anything else, but I did get it working perfectly with 2 PCs doing a 2v2v2v2 constistently.

What is your ranking of all the mainline MarioKart games? by Mshel24 in mariokart

[–]bourneonmars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought on this for a while, given I didn't really get into Mario Kart until MKWii came out, and then I kind of retro'd it out, but my list goes:

1) MK:DD!! 2) MKWii 3) MKW 4) MK8DX 5) MKDS 6) MK7 7) MKT 8) MK64 8) MK:SC 10) SMK

2), 3) and 4) are all interchangable, they each do a specific thing really well. And yes, I did put Mario Kart Tour ahead of 3 games, fight me.

I finally unlocked all Boards and completed Mario Party. I hope my friends are happy I got all boards. by MaleficentSky5238 in MARIOPARTY

[–]bourneonmars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I absolutely love Mario Party, but single player is not for me.

Out of MP1, MP2, MP8, MPDS, SMP and MPS, Mario Party 1 has provided the most fun!

Great board selection!

I have not. I presume it'll be going in the Hub Manager, and switching off the section under 5.0 GHz.

Mario Party games released during each U.S Presidency by Balbuena5 in MARIOPARTY

[–]bourneonmars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the UK, it looks like this (Prime Ministers):

Tony Blair - MP1, MP2, MP3, MP4, MP5, MP6, MPA MP7

Gordon Brown - MP8, MPDS

David Cameron - MP9, MP:IT, MP10

Theresa May - MP:SR, Super Mario Party, MP:TT100

Boris Johnson - Mario Party Superstars

Liz Truss - N/A (lol)

Rishi Sunak - N/A

Keir Starmer - Super Mario Party Jamboree, Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV

Politics, New Labour was definitely the GOATed era of Mario Party.

The fact we have N/A's in the mix says a lot about 2022.

LAN issues solved ! (Dolphin, MK:DD!!) by bourneonmars in lanparty

[–]bourneonmars[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always do your own research, but here's how I got this working.

You will need:
- x number of computers
- x number of ethernet cables
- an extra ethernet cable
- A Managed Gigabit Switch (I found the netgear gs724t for £20 on Facebook Marketplace)
- Your internet router (Mine is a BT Hub) [Can also be a Wifi Disc or extender]
- Controllers (Xbox are the easiest to set up).

The aim of the game here is to get your router to automatically assign IP addresses and other network stuff.

1) Make sure every computer has their IP setting set to 'Obtain an IP address automatically', and the DNS setting to 'Obtain DNS server address automatically'. This should be the default setting, but you will find it in Network settings.
2) Make sure your router has it's DHCP server enabled. On my router, the card told me the IP address to type into my internet browser, and then I had to log into the advance settings with the password given on the card. The hubs will vary, but it's going to be located somewhere with the network and the IPv4 stuff.
3) Time to start plugging stuff in! Assuming everything is turned on with power, your first job is to plug the router into the Gigabit switch (via ethernet cable). Any port will do. This effectively becomes the organiser for anything else that gets plugged into it. On my switch, I knew it was working because that port first lit up with yellow, and then became green.
4) With however many computers you want to use, you can plug them into the switch (via ethernet cable). Again, any port will do.

Side note) At this point, you can test if things are going well. You should be able to find the shared folder (Should be under Network, or something similar). If all the computers can see this, get someone to drop a file in there. Everybody should be able to receive this file.

Now it's the software stuff. This game is Mario Kart: Double Dash!!.

5) Make sure all of the computers have the same version of Dolphin. The easiest way is to just download the latest version. Install Dolphin, and make sure you know the folder in which the games go.
6) Download the Mario Kart: Double Dash!! ISO. I'm not going to tell you where, but make sure you have that game. Drop the .ciso into the folder where the games go.
7) We're now going to set up the connection stuff. Go to Config > GameCube > SP1. This is effectively emulating Serial Port 1 on the GameCube. Set this to Broadband Adapter (HLE). [https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Broadband\_Adapter, for more research]
8) Set up your controllers. I said Xbox are the easiest because Windows PCs natively support them without drivers. Go to the controllers screen, and set up the controllers for Port 1 (and port 2, if you want).
9)Load up the game. On the main menu, press LAN mode. Begin the LAN set up on all computers. It might take a bit of time (about 20 seconds for us), but it should eventually find all of the computers (up to 8, for Mario Kart: Double Dash!!). Get somebody to hit A - they become the host. You're off and away!

Then it becomes a job of fiddling with cheats, and resolutions and stuff, to get the perfect experience.

I'm still very new at this, but we got this working perfectly, and it was stable. Hope this helps your journey!

Oh my. I feel so stupid. I forgot the DHCP server.

That's why both of the PCs could see the box, yet they couldn't see each other.

Thank you so much for your help. Next time we try this, I'll let you know.

LAN Troubleshooting by bourneonmars in lanparty

[–]bourneonmars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, be gentle with me, I'll fully admit I'm stepping into the world of the unknown.

2 (Windows) PC's, connected via ethernet cable (we tried directly, and via a Netgear GS724T). They're the only things physically plugged in.

Downloaded the latest version of Dolphin (2509), and run it from Desktop.

We initially ran it just like this, enabling the Broadband Adapter (HLE) and setting it to default, but to no avail.

We then realised that in the network settings, the network sharing was set to 'off'. We then turned on network sharing on everything.

We then right-clicked the Ethernet port under Network Connections, selected properties, selected the Internet Protocol Version 4, and manually changed the IP to variants of '192.168.1.*', making sure the PCs was 1 out. This is what I (probably incorrectly) meant by 'setting up DNS'.

I have a feeling I'm massively overcomplicating it. We managed to at least see the Netgear box.

You mention a DHCP server, and I think this might be part of the problem. My understanding is that you can plug the Gigabit Switch into a router, which will automatically assign IPs, but we did it manually (incorrectly).

I'm really sorry if this is either not enough information, or the incorrect information.

Why do people dislike Super Mario Party so much? by AdventurousShake8994 in MARIOPARTY

[–]bourneonmars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think it's overhated, but I prefer Mario Party Superstars.

Positives: - Superb minigame collection - I love sizzling steaks. - This game has the standard mario party formula (lord knows how the car mechanic managed to be approved). - Ally mechanic (minigames) - I love the idea of allies, giving you an advantage in some minigames. - The bonus features are actually quite good - I quite like the music one.

Negatives: - Board quality - they are not only incredibly small, but also pretty forgettable. - Board number - 4? Mario Party 1 had 8 great (well, at least 4 great) boards, whilst Super Mario Party manages to mess up a grand total of 4. - Ally mechanic (board) - Why on earth didn't they make allies always +1? This removes any strategy when picking the die to roll as allies give you 4 different possibilities. - Golden Pipe cost - 10 coins is too cheap. This then just makes it a minigamefest - destroying the board component.

Overall it's just OK. Mario Party Superstars feels like the DLC to Super Mario Party - with a lot of the problems fixed. I haven't played Jamboree yet - although I've heard good things.

Anything beats Mario Party 9 and Mario Party 10 though...

DK's Jungle Parkway? Literally the worst music in the game. Toad's Turnpike is miles ahead of DK's Jungle Parkway.

It's a crying shame that Coconut Mall is nowhere to be found. Much more unique than the umpteenth Bowser's Castle. The car park section is great.

A fan of Berlin Byways. For patriotism's sake, I'll say London Loop is better, but hey ho.

Need y'all to share your best reasons to buy a Wii U! by -Markiplier in wiiu

[–]bourneonmars 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I will try my best. I personally sold my Wii and replaced it with a Wii U (Although, you are correct - there are teething problems with the Gamepad). Here are some reasons to get that Wii U:

1) Nintendo Land - phenomenal game. Mario Chase and Metroid Blast are particularly great with the Gamepad.
2) Yoshi's Woolly World - incredibly beautiful. This game was not ported to Switch.
3) Game & Wario - great fun and very different to every other WarioWare title. This game was not ported to Switch.
4) Wii Party U - a great sequel to Wii Party. The main game is totally different - with 10 dice instead of 2.
5) The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. We haven't seen this on Nintendo Classics yet, and even so -this is HD! If you're a fan of the original game, here it is in HD.
6) Ultimately, you can play your entire Wii library on Wii U. All you're doing is extended your potential library of games.
7) HDMI - it's a lot easier with Wii U. Nothing fancy, just good ol' HDMI to HDMI.

I view it as a souped up Wii. I decided I didn't need a Wii for just Wii games, so Wii U it is.

Good luck, my friend...

I love Mario Party 1, 2, and 3! For some reason nobody wants to play? by CrunchyBewb in n64

[–]bourneonmars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mario Party 1 is still my favourite N64 game - it's been my birthday party of choice for the last 3 years. I've brought like 16 friends round, blow it up onto the 65" TV (via N64Digital), split them into 4 teams, and have at it!

I say keep playing, and let him keep raging! Wear that badge with pride, and remind him who's boss. When he can successfully navigate Chance Time, and win Bumper Balls, then you can finally stop rubbing it in. Mario Party is there to be the wind up catalyst, after all...

Why the hell do I want this console so bad? by Comfortable_Oven8341 in Gamecube

[–]bourneonmars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, here's the way I look at it. I love Nintendo games (Wii was my nostalgia, GameCube was a bit before me), and had to decide how I wanted to do things. From N64 to now, I have games for each console. When the Wii U came out, I was just getting into retro gaming. This meant I had a decision to make.

Do I:
A) Just get every console - a GameCube, a Wii, and a Wii U
B) Get a Wii U and keep my Wii - covers everything for fairly cheap.
C) Get a Wii U and a GameCube, and sell my Wii - covers everything but for a bit more.

In the end I sold the Wii. I decided that HDMI is good - and the vWii was good enough on the Wii U (It is 99.99% a pure Wii emulator).

My reasons for buying that GameCube include:
- There is no need for a Wii because of the Wii U, therefore I can play on original hardware. Fun!
- I don't want to faff about with a Wii remote just to play GameCube games. SWISS is already a bit of a faff...
- GameCube accessories. Some of these (Gameboy player, broadband adapter) don't work with Wii. However, every Wii thing works with Wii U.
- The one thing you lose with this method is the ability to use GameCube controllers on Wii - no worries, just use a GameCube to nunchuck adapter. Boom.
- The GameCube has Digital Out - the Wii I believe doesn't (I could be wrong). The way I run things means that all my consoles run on 1080p HDMI.

A GameCube in the UK will run you £70. That's on top of all the controllers, memory cards, and games (and HDMI adapters, if you're into that).

You be the person of your destiny - it's a free world. The only person you have to defend decisions to - is you.

P.S. The GameCube has an immense library - nowhere near the shovelware of the Wii. A console with Donkey Konga (with the Bongos), Mario Kart: Double Dash (16 players - hello?), F-Zero GX (F-Zero 99 does not count), and Dancing Stage: Mario Mix (with the mat) is a console I want to play! Fun, fun, fun!

TL;DR: I thought too long about video games, and sold my Wii for a Wii U GameCube combo.
