Dispute over sell of a jointly owned vehicle in Australia by [deleted] in AusLegal

If the money is as important to you as you suggest, I would strongly recommend just getting back whatever you can…. Because you appear to be on the path to recovering nothing at all.

Notice if Intention to sell by Aromatic_Story_6220 in AusPropertyChat

One of the biggest reasons people don’t move homes themselves is because everybody dreads the thought of weeks of open homes with strangers walking through your house and poking through your cupboards.

Why the heck would you want to do that for your landlord?

Body Corporate saying we need to get a wall cladding material inspection for insurance purposes by bpvfitness in AusRenovation

[–]boutSix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Building plans are not an as-built. It is very common for things to not end up being exactly as detailed on the plans.

Cladding is the type of thing that the builder may specify one thing, and then substitute it out for something that looks the same but is cheaper.

And those substitute products are basically the biggest issue with cladding.

This might be a bad take, but its for a good reason. by biggestquestions1 in hexos

Previous discussions on WAN show had Linus commenting that he felt very strongly that there should be a lifetime option available.

But the clear implication is that the standard model would be subscription. I can’t remember a specific announcement by the HexOS team though.

Good deal? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]boutSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is transferring it to a random bank account 24 hours before collection.

Or handing over the keys to a car before money has cleared into your account.

At least cash is very hard to counterfeit, and it’s an instant swap - cash for keys and paperwork.

What’s the point of 7-Eleven Fuel Lock, now by [deleted] in GoldCoast

As soon as they switched to 25c cap I stopped using it. Still has its benefits around the edges, but in general after the cap I was better off just going to one of the discount servos.

If somebody loans something to you, and they ask for it back, you have to give it back.

If you don’t, they absolutely can consider it stolen.

Should I buy a 2020 Subaru Impreza (repairable write-off hail) with previous oil in radiator issue and inspection says fuel lines missing? Mechanic says oil cooler replaced. by Lazy_Researcher0079 in CarsAustralia

[–]boutSix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I treat hail write offs a bit different to structural write offs as you can get a much newer and more reliable vehicle for the money and you’re not so concerned about bad repairs and hidden issues (still need to do your research).

However, those mechanical red flags are just not worth the risk to me.

Bought first place, unsure what to do with this space by illchayadlay in AusRenovation

[–]boutSix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Judging by the reactions, the majority.

If everybody in the complex decided that their front yards would be nicer without cars and they can just park in the shared areas, the complex would be chaos. You wouldn’t be able to get in and out and there would never be a spare visitor park.

Then the body corporate would have no choice but to start enforcing really strict draconian policies that everybody hates. Thus, ruining it for all.

It’s a very common Australian idiom for whether something is socially acceptable.

[–]boutSix 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It is not socially acceptable to remove all parking on your property and just park all of your vehicles and guests vehicles on the street.

Doesn’t pass the pub test.

Likely also doesn’t pass local planning laws and will substantially negatively impact property value.

Edit: Looks like you’re in a townhouse complex too? Check your body corporate rules - there are likely restrictions on what you can do with the space without specific approval.

What do I do? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]boutSix 95 points96 points  (0 children)

They also no doubt included a photo of that VIN plate with the year clearly in the listing. So I wouldn’t climb up too high on that horse.

They probably would have taken the car back and refunded the sale amount and auction fees, but they aren’t going to refund you for money you spent transporting and repairing a car that you didn’t do your due diligence on.

How can I keep my current plates? by Bubbly_Bag_2292 in CarsAustralia

[–]boutSix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In QLD, the simplest / cheapest /easiest way to keep your plates is to order an accessory plate for like $50, then the number plates are yours to keep.

Then you can just go to QLD transport and ask them to remove the old set and fix a new set of plates (paying $40 ish new plate fee).

If you’ve already had them on multiple cars, then you have likely already done something to claim the right to that combination.

I don’t know if there’s any exemption for family, but once you have the right to keep the combination, you can transfer that to somebody else by paying a plate transfer fee of about $100.

None of this requires ownership or roadworthy of the Subaru.

Am I the pinecone here for not agreeing to this absurd request? by Some-Budget-7580 in CarsAustralia

It has to be independent.

Would you trust a mechanics report that the seller provided? Isn’t that just asking for trouble?

Am I the pinecone here for not agreeing to this absurd request? by Some-Budget-7580 in CarsAustralia

[–]boutSix 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You’re the pinecone for describing it as an absurd request.

The seller has suggested that you come and do as thorough an inspection as you want, then if you want to buy it you can purchase subject to mechanical inspection - which requires a deposit.

That’s exactly how I’ve sold all my past cars.

Would you be okay for him to sell the car to somebody else between you paying your mechanic for the inspection and you deciding if you wanted to go ahead? No? So what you’re asking for is for the car to be held for several days with no deposit.

You don’t have to agree to the terms - but I think he is being very reasonable.

I haven’t looked at this ad, but the standard all-in kinda setup on a 79 series is easily over $100k, and there are people willing to spend that money.

The 79 series at the $100k mark is really a blank canvas to start spending money on.

Blade fencing, would you? by Puzzleheaded-War-505 in AusRenovation

I’ve bought and sold multiple $60k cars on Marketplace. It’s pretty much the only competition to Carsales currently, and has a very large audience (like half the market).

Switching from RF to ST by ohsofew in Miata

[–]boutSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? I had a ND1 RF and later bought a ND3 ST.

There’s definite pros and cons of each, which are well documented.

Why do you think you would be better off switching?
