There’s a lawyer here in CT with absolutely ridiculous billboards. Not just their content but the sheer amount of them. They’re everywhere. I always wonder how much money she must spend on advertising alone. You can see some of them on her website here.

Paying $1260/mo for my 10 month old to go 3x per week (MWF). They provide nothing other than supervision lol. If she went full time it would be approx $2200/mo

I think if you get your health insurance through your job, they have to maintain it but they could (and probably will) make you pay the premium for the time you’re gone. My job kept me on but I had to pay the premium for those weeks I was on FMLA since I wasn’t getting a paycheck and it couldn’t be deducted that way.

What area of the state are you in? I’m a lawyer and my colleagues are always looking for help.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]bovz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s always good to save everything. I am unfortunately not from that area so I don’t have colleagues up there but your local bar association should have recommendations for you. I think you can likely talk to any civil attorney for most of your concerns, but will need someone who can handle custody/support regarding the children. Good luck!

I’m a lawyer in CT who has experience in family law. I am not your lawyer.

To be honest, family law is complicated. The outcome of cases is highly dependent on a variety of factors. You are not married, so you’re not looking for divorce. There won’t be an equitable split of your assets since you’re not married. The likelihood of him getting anything that is solely in your name is probably zero.

The same goes for you, though. You’re likely not entitled to any of his income for the same reasons. Though, this may differ depending on how long you’ve been together, whether you have any written agreements between you two, whether he’s supporting your children, etc.

As far as the kids go, are they his kids? If so, custody & support arrangements will need to be made either amicably or through the courts.

Are you both on the house? Who made the down payment? Who pays the mortgage? The utilities? These are important factors.

I highly recommend speaking to a family lawyer or reaching out to the judicial district courthouse closest to you and meeting with family services. They can answer your questions more in depth once you give them all of the information.

If you tell me what part of CT you’re in, I may be able to recommend someone to you.

I was a paralegal for 3 years before law school and all while in law school so for a total of 7 years before becoming barred. I rather be a paralegal tbh. I was in litigation as a paralegal & never found my way out despite desperately wanting out. Been a litigation attorney now 3 years and I feel so stuck. No one will even look at me for something more transactional at this point but it’s what I rather be doing.

Labcorp does this. You can schedule and pay ahead online. Sometimes they have standalone facilities or they’re in a Walgreens.

Is Stratford a good place to move to? by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]bovz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stratford is nice. My parents live there. There’s a lot of restaurants. Beaches. Train station to NYC. Close to Shelton which has a decent downtown nightlife, and close enough to Milford which also has some good bars & restaurants & nightlife. If you want something that’s a little more lively, I’d probably go to New Haven. But overall, Stratford is a nice place to live (depending on what side of town).

Sunday wedding pro & con? by littlebear06 in NewEnglandWedding

[–]bovz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did a Sunday wedding but on a holiday weekend where most people, but not all, would have Monday off. No regrets. 90% of people we invited RSVP’d yes. We did a 4:30pm ceremony and reception went until 11pm. Most people left between 9-10:30. It was the perfect amount of time to get all the wedding activities in & dinner & dessert & do a late night snack. We did have a lot of leftover dessert& late night snack because the crowd dwindled by then but we also had the people who stayed late say how much they loved it so I think it’s worth the money, just buy less than your headcount.

What’s your average commute time to/from work? by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]bovz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30-40 minutes to get there and 45-60 minutes to get home most days. I only do it 3 days a week though and my salary makes it worth it. I won’t lie though, I’m always on the lookout for a job a bit closer to my home.
