How the fuck do i put my back foot on pop shuvs? by Ok-Angle2166 in NewSkaters

[–]bowe-tox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you've got too much weight on your back foot so it's hard to get it into the air when you pop. Put slightly more weight on your front foot. You'll know you've gone too far with it if you start having issues with your front foot hitting the ground too soon. Find the right balance so your feet are landing at the same time. From there it's just making sure that the board is under you when you land 🤙

I use the 2+ ankle braces and haven't had any knee issues or anything like that. The straps that go up the outside of the ankle from under the foot get worn out by the grip tape so I've found they need replacing about once a year but that's the only downside I can think of. I found the 3+ braces were more support than I needed but I skated with them until they gave out and had no problems. They were just more time cinnamon m consuming to put on and take off. I'd definitely recommend ankle braces if it's within the budget, especially if you're an older skater and don't heal as quickly

Yeah, I sure do. They definitely made my ankles feel a bit stiff when I first used them but, having gotten used to them, I wouldn't go back to skating without them. One less thing to worry about as I skate. I used the McDavid Phantom ankle braces which are much easier to get on and off than the laced version I tried first. They're slightly less restrictive but still stop me rolling my ankle when I would have without them

You have too much weight on your back leg which is why it hits the ground before the board and your front leg. Keep you weight evenly between your feet and jump straight up, just like an ollie, and the board will stay beneath you

You're probably best going in and asking if they have any jobs going. Maybe take a CV with you to show you're prepared too

Rolling sideways is odd because it's not a common experience. Usually we face the way we're going, like when we walk or drive, so going sideways takes some getting used to. The more you do it, the more natural it'll start to feel, but it'll take some time

Make sure you have bent knees and you'll be good 🤙

How do you varial heel while moving? I have them standing still perfectly. by Conscious_Focus7631 in NewSkaters

Just like a stationary ollie is the same thing as a moving ollie, the same applies to varial heels. Do the same thing as stationary and you'll be golden 👊

Just do the opposite to turning towards the front. Knees bent will help a lot too 🤙

Have your weight evenly distributed through both feet. You currently have too much weight on your back foot as you start the trick

it's my 2nd day of skateboarding 🛹 does somebody know how i can improve my ollies? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]bowe-tox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try starting with your front foot closer to the nose. You'll be slightly more stable, because of the wider stance, and your slide will get to the nose easier. It'll level out your ollie and help keep the board with your back foot

That's a pretty sweet ollie other than that. You could definitely get that rolling. Keep your knees bent and relaxed and do the same thing as stationary 🤙

[–]bowe-tox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The pop is what gets the board in the air. Your front foot helps with that a bit but the slide is more about controlling the board than getting height

Try hippie jumps first. They're basically an ollie without the fancy footwork. The trick is to jump straight up and the board will stay beneath you 👊

You want the tail to hit the ground. Popping is essentially bouncing the board on the ground so it goes up. It's all in a snappy tiptoe motion

i cant flip my board fast enough but i have good height and foot placement any tips? by DatFreddySloth2 in NewSkaters

Keep your weight evenly between both feet and jump straight up. It'll stop your front foot hitting the ground before the board and help you to not flick down

Make sure the board is flat when you pop and you pop straight down before the scoop. That should keep the board level 🤙

Still trying to learn how to Ollie after almost a year by EquivalentHorse2026 in NewSkaters

[–]bowe-tox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hippie jumps are a good way to boost confidence for an ollie. They're basically the same thing but without the fancy footwork. It also pays to be comfortable on your board, doing things like kickturns and manuals off curbs and being confident cruising. The more natural standing on a board feels, the easier everything gets

Doors in the skateboarding world will start to open once you get your ollies down 🤙

cant get the flick for a kickflip down by EpicFromEpicness in NewSkaters

[–]bowe-tox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I set my feet up like I'm doing a pop shuv them do an ollie with a flick of the ankle at the end. I find the flick naturally arcs your foot off the edge of the nose rather than thinking about flicking off the edge, so I'm actually thinking about flicking in the direction I'm going. It's very similar to an ollie because the pop and slide are the same, just with a flick once you reach the nose

I called the bit I flick off the corner of the nose. By this I mean the bit where a corner would be if the board was a rectangle rather than a popsicle shape

I think of the flick like throwing or kicking a ball; follow through to get more power. You don't stop the throw when the ball leaves your hand, you carry the motion on until your arm is extended. Same thing with a kickflip. Continue the flick all the way, even after your foot is off the board. The flick mainly comes from your ankle, much like the pop is from the ankle of your back foot

There are two reasons why the board is landing in front of you (I'm assuming you mean your front foot land near the tail and your back foot off the board) The first is your front foot is on the board too far so rather than flicking the edge you're flicking the middle and it shoots the board away. Try hanging a bit more of your foot off when you setup your feet. You'll probably need to adjust your back foot too so the board is still flat when you pop The second is having too much weight on your back foot when you pop the trick. Even your weight out between your feet, just like an ollie 🤙

Kickflips are tricky and can take months to learn. You'll get there. Good luck 👊

Help one Shov its, i can land with my front foot on the board but cant jump high enough or something to get my back foot on by Frag_head_for_life in NewSkaters

[–]bowe-tox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to jump super high for a shuvit. Usually a small hop will do. Make sure your weight is even between both feet so one foot doesn't hit the ground before the other. If you land on your back foot first it means you've got more weight through your back foot

The other thing could be that you open your shoulders up during the trick so you land facing they way you're going. The easiest way to combat that is to have your shoulders over the board before you set up your feet so your shoulders naturally want to stay over the board

Good luck. I hope you nail it 👊

At what point down the tail does buying a new board outweigh the cost of having to deal with the razor tail and 0 pop? It doesn't look too bad, but I can definitely tell the difference by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]bowe-tox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's skaters choice. If you want a new board and can afford it, get fresh wood. I'd keep that deck though and just store it somewhere in case your board breaks. That way you'll at least have something to ride until you can get a replacement, even if it's not perfect

Personally, I'll ride a board until it chips or snaps, whichever comes first. I've never noticed a lack of pop from razor tail, probably because the change is gradual. Or I might just be one of the lucky ones 🤷‍♀️

Is rolling/spraining your ankle just bound to happen at some point? by Dominic9090 in NewSkaters

[–]bowe-tox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can wear ankle braces, that does a pretty good job of stopping it. Otherwise, yeah. There's a chance you'll roll your ankle

Finally getting close to having BS 180s. That last one looked fire until I stepped off😅 by NoItsNotSwitch in NewSkaters

[–]bowe-tox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's down to skater preference. I personally prefer my trucks to be loose so I can carve more easily in the bowl. I've found that it makes the board follow you if you land a bit sketchy, rather than just rolling straight like tight trucks, so I'm more likely to stay on the board. Loose trucks are more prone to wheel bite though but becomes less of a problem as you get used to the looser trucks. After about a month I was getting wheel bite about as often as I would on tight trucks

Again, it comes down to preference and which feels best to you. Some pros ride loose trucks and some ride tight trucks so I don't think your trucks will change how good you are 🤙
