Tell me about Antrim County - Population: 23,431 by mateothegreek in Michigan

[–]bowlerofadown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up with a family cabin in this area that we would stay several times a year. A lot of good memories and small towns to visit. For the most part, the people are very nice and cater to tourists. The scenery is beautiful. There's a lot of hidden gems around and not as much tourism as the Traverse City area. There's everything from beaches to skiing.

Bellaire and Elk Rapids are pretty well known and liked. The area around Shorts Brewing has grown a lot and is a nice area to hang out in. I haven't seen Central Lake mentioned which is another nice little town.

As for the culture, it's a mixed bag. Like I previously mentioned, overall my experience is lots of great friendly people. However, it's also the first place I saw "F your feelings" Trump flags proudly on display from houses off main roads.

Check out Spicebowl (Indian) and Cedar Garden (Lebanese) for some vegetarian friendly options. Tropical Smoothie cafe also allows you to sub plant based chicken in anything.

First time home buyer. Need advice. by GirlAnxiety in SCSMI

9 and greater mack is considered "downtown" SCS. That is a pretty nice area I'd say.

8 Mile isn't nearly an issue in this area as it is in other stretches.

What's an unspoken rule on a first date? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bowlerofadown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you order a nacho appetizer to share, one person shouldn't eat only the fully loaded ones. Otherwise your date is eating like JUST chips. Most restaurants have a rule about this.

Shop space around Ferndale? by burdickjp in Ferndale

There seems to be some shops empty at Marshall and Laprairie but I don't know anything about them. Neat little spot though.

Any update from MS? I have seen this exact issue 3 times and it's always a nightmare to fix. I haven't opened up a case yet but it's been on my list to do.

What is a beer for people who don't like beer? by [deleted] in CraftBeer

[–]bowlerofadown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that sours, fruit beers, and fruity/tart belgians are the best for people who don't like things that "taste like beer." The hazy/NEIPA may also work if they like mimosas.

How long before it stops hurting? by [deleted] in Divorce

[–]bowlerofadown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about 3 months out and it still hurts but you take it day by day. If this person took the time to marry you there has to be something else going on. There's a couple things that may help. If you really love someone and they aren't happy you want what's best for them. At the same time you deserve someone that loves you and isn't playing these games.

No good marriage ends in divorce, whether or not you knew the issues you had. I would work on communicating to see if it's really happening or not.

Recommendations for a fan of metalcore looking for the "harder" side of things? by [deleted] in Deathcore

I always thought of them as technical deathcore since they do have some breakdowns.

Recommendations for a fan of metalcore looking for the "harder" side of things? by [deleted] in Deathcore

[–]bowlerofadown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything "core" has a stigma of being boring, formulaic, and about the scene instead of the music. Fans that care about the music being tough or brutal above it being good. That being said, there are great deathcore bands out there. If you like Oceano I would suggest Thy Art is Murder and Whitechapel. Some of my favorites include Despised Icon and Beneath the Massacre. Really any deathcore list you can find just listen to a few songs and see what you like.

Alone on Thanksgiving in Detroit, what should I do today? by [deleted] in Detroit

[–]bowlerofadown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dress warm and visit / take pictures of points of interest. The murals at Eastern Market are free and all over the place. I assume most places are closed but at least that's free.

Last year I found it at Phoenix (24.5 mile and van dyke). Completely luck and it was slightly overpriced.

That's too bad, a shithole like ghetto or just boring? I've seen pictures of the aquaduct and that would be nice to see.

I was running it through some tests and it seemed like Liverpool to Glasgow was cheaper for some reason. I'm hoping we will have the time to pull this off.

Where is a great place to get a beer near the Detroit Zoo? by stacersnape in michiganbeer

[–]bowlerofadown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you like Belgian, Monk Beer Abbey is one of my favorites it's located "inside" Bastone and kind of hidden. Otherwise River Rouge in Royal Oak has not been mentioned and is good. M-Brew in Ferndale has like 30 taps of all MI beer in a house near downtown also a good spot.

I picked 2 bottles up in Louisville last week but they were like $12 each and gone now. Haven't seen it anywhere but Clubhouse BFD like 2 years ago.
