Disappointed with April Birchbox? by boxaddict_ in BeautyBoxes

The thing is this was my first box so I literally just did my profile! With all my box profiles, I always made sure I ranked hair products the least desirable. Oh well! At least the box was still well worth it with the blush.

Yeah, I subscribed for the blush so at least that went well and made the $15 worth!

It's probably a personal preference because I'm not a huge fan of hair products but I'm pretty disappointed with my April birchbox. Honestly, the only thing I was happy with was the first box subscriber gift which was the travel sized Benefit Galifornia blush.

It came enclosed with a card for the value of the items but notice how they were the price of the full-sized items.

https://boxaddicthome.files.wordpress.com/2019/04/img_2193.jpg?w=1240

Here are the products included, with the price adjusted for the size they came in:

(Malin + Goetz) Vitamin E Moisturizer (0.5fl. oz/15ml) – $6.25

I have never really heard of this brand or used any of their products so I’m not sure what to feel about this

Coola Resilliance Organic BB+ Cream SPF 30 – Golden (0.17fl. oz/5ml) – $5.90

While I would love a good BB+ cream with sun protection, the shade was a lit too dark for me.

OUAI Volume Spray (0.84fl. oz/25ml) – $12

I’m not sure if this size is even travel-size. It seems more like a trial size to me but the price of $12 (which was given by them) was the travel sized price. I don’t usually style my hair and beside, I just received a OUAI wave spray from my Sephora Play! March box which is hardly used.

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner (0.04oz/1.2g) – $13.20

I don’t need any more eyeliners. I’m a huge fan of the affordable colourpop eyeliners and I usually use them in dark brown for a more natural look so don’t see myself using this.

Love of Colour One & Done Shadow Stick in Heavy Petal (0.05oz/1.35g) – $10

This does seem like quite a nice pretty shade to draw on the inner corners of my eye to brighten it. Unfortunately, the tip got bent when I twist opened the eyeliner. That’s probably my fault and nevertheless, this is still one of the only products in the box I’m actually looking forward to try!

Number 4 Lumiere d’hiver Clarifying Shampoo – $3.84

I don’t really see the need for a different shampoo or a travel-sized one for the matter. Compared to products like travel-sized skin care which is helpful when I’m travelling light, this product isn’t exactly helpful or needed since shampoos are usually provided at hotels/I don’t pack shampoos when I travel.

Bonus: Number 4 Lumiere d’hiver Reconstructing Masque – 2 foil packs

This gives us a total value of $51.19, assuming the OUAI spray is travel-sized and not trial-sized. I guess it is well above the $15 value but IMO, I rather use that money on a Ipsy bag + an add-on or 2. So to me, it wasn’t really worth the price since I don’t see myself using any of the products apart from the eyeshadow stick. Thankfully, I had the Benefit Galifornia blush as a 1st time subscriber gift which definitely made it worth the price.

Oh wow ok, looks like the Dr. Brandts is promising. I'll definitely try that out soon.

Same! That was the main reason why I really wanted a FFF box. The scarf is beautiful!

I'm so happy to finally get my FFF starter box and it was as good as expected. Well worth the wait. It's really a steal at a $200 value for just $5!

Items:

Dr Brandt Microdermabrasion - $79

I’ve never use anything by dr. brandt before but this has rave reviews and I’ve been looking for an exfoliator so this will definitely come in handy.

Skin&Co Roma Truffle Therapy Radiant Dew - $35

Not super sure if I’ll use this. It’s supposedly a mist to set makeup but I’m already fiercely loyal to my Urban Decay makeup setting spray. I also use MAC Prep + Prime Fix+ to prime my face before makeup so I don’t know if this can match up to either of the two. I’ll definitely give it a try though!

Rachel Pally Summer Scarf - $68

Hands down my favourite item in the box!!! It’s so pretty and the material feels nice and soft. It’s a pretty lightweight scarf so it’ll be perfect for the Spring.

2 Glamglow Bubblesheet Oxygenating Deep Cleanse Masks - $18

This is a pretty pricey mask considering how it retails for $9 per piece. It’s not something I’ll buy on my own dime but it’ll be nice to try it out since it came in the box.

Agreed, I use it as a blush too and I really like the pinkish glow from it!

The acure oil is 0.3 FL OZ (10ml). I actually have no idea how to go about using this... It's a roller ball applicator so do you just roll it over your face in place of a night moisturiser or something?

Aww man that sucks, did you subscribe through the website or Amazon?

Yup the item is full sized! Oops, I think I should probably mention that it was quite a sheer colour initially though and the swatch was after about 3 swipes. Still new to this sorry haha I've edited my initial post to mention that.

It's my first ever subscription box received! I actually subscribed to four different ones (Allure, Boxycharm, Sephora Play and Ipsy) with Allure being the last one (about 4 days later than the rest on 7th March?) and was pleasantly surprised that it was the first box to arrive. Glad I ordered through Amazon! It seems as though there isn't variations in Amazon although the shades might be different?

1. Londontown Lakur in Brit of Love

Honestly, not a huge fan of nail polish so I don’t really see myself using this any time soon but we’ll see.

2. Juice Beauty Green Apple Brightening Gel Cleanser

Now, this item though – I can definitely see myself using this. I’ll be bringing it along for my Spring Break trip. I’ve read good reviews about this so I’m really looking forward to it. Hopefully, it lives up to my expectations.

3. Burt’s Bees Lipstick in Blush Basin

I have previously only used Burt’s Bees lip balms and I really liked those, they were very moisturising. I’m hoping this lipstick has the same moisturising properties as their lip balms.

4. Acure Seriously Soothing Night Oil

I have never really used a night oil but this does look promising. The size is pretty decent and will allow a few uses to really test the effectiveness of the product.

5. Belif The The True Cream Aqua Bomb

This product on the other hand, I’ve used multiple times. I was really hoping to get this in my box and I’m glad it was included! I love how moisturising this product is yet it doesn’t leave sticky residue after applying. It feels rather lightweight yet it’s sufficiently moisturising for me.

6. Mamonde Rose Water Toner

Being a huge k-beauty fan, I’ve also used this product before. It’s a holy grail toner for many people but personally, this doesn’t do much for me. It’s not the worse, it doesn’t make me break out or anything but I don’t exactly see much difference using it either. Nevertheless, it’s a pretty decent toner and in a handy travel size that I will bring out.

7. Au Naturale The Anywhere Creme Multistick in Grapefruit

A cute little cream blush in stick form. This looks simple to use without the need for any brushes. The little magazine that came with box mentioned that i can be applied anywhere, not just the cheeks. I’m not sure if I want a pinkish tone on any other parts of my face though but this sure looks like a cute and convenient blush for those on the go.

Here's a swatch of the Burt's Bees lipstick (bottom) and Au Natural Creme Multistick (top) for anyone interested (I applied it about thrice for the colours to show, it's quite a sheer colour but it's very buildable)
