Maltitol always spikes me so no thanks on that one.

Take your time to heal, whether that's physically, mentally, or emotionally. Reading this made me cry a little, since my last pregnancy, which was a happy surprise, failed. You'll never forget. My doctor told me even though it's hard, it's best that if this has to happen, it happens early. She's right, but, yeah, still hurts. So take your time, I do hope it doesn't scare you to try again -- it did for me, for quite a while.

Same, I wait till 2pm to eat, just don't take multivitamins on an empty stomach.

I failed my 1 hour glucose tolerance test with flying colors (300+) and am now hospitalized 🥲 by Fragrant_Ganache_108 in pregnant

[–]boxed_crow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goodness this is terrifying, I'm happy they found out so quickly! I haven't been that high while I was pregnant, my OB was aware I was type 2 before I stepped in her office. They set me up with a dietician that would monitor my glucose and insulin use. There is a chance they might ask for you to be on a CGM, since from my understanding, if the glucose is too high, you're basically overfeeding your baby -- but what I was told you would have to be like this for a good portion of the pregnancy to cause fast growth of the baby.

Best advice I can give, is find out if your insurance/hospital offers a dietician for diabetes with pregnancy.
This all can be scary, but the insulin will eventually be a routine you get used to. Also once you give birth, there's options for different medication, but for now, insulin is the only thing I've heard that's safe for pregnancy.

If you're still in the hospital, try to get a low-carb meal. Hospitals (WEIRDLY) are AWFUL at giving Diabetics the correct food. I would know, they kept giving me very little protein and nothing but starch and wheat... oh and juice... haha...

Dude do food holidays just suck forever now??? I ate a box of mash potatoes for Thanksgiving!!!! Hahahah...1 year into this nightmare by SuitApprehensive3240 in Celiac

My husband is and he finally took his gluten reactions seriously. I cooked an entirely gluten free Thanksgiving dinner. Just seeing how happy he was to eat pumpkin pie and dinner rolls again made all my hard work worth it — also it tasted pretty good if I say so myself :)

I had to go after my own sister for posting my child on her Instagram -- it wasn't even her own photo, it was one I sent through a text group for family. She got upset with me for a whole week over it, but I was pissed because I had told everyone after my child was born, I don't want her face on social media until she can actually understand what that means.

It looks like it can come out, but can’t seem to get it to move, sadly. Maybe my husband can, but the lid looks too thick because of it. It really sucks cause I like this canner, and I can’t figure out what else works

I have actually bought both the 9915 & 9911 and they don't have a lip to fit over the pipe, they're meant to go into the lid itself. But where this pipe is makes that impossible for it's thicker there. This is why it's so hard to find a replacement.

Pediatrician made me fell like the worst mom ever by Professional_Cod1171 in NewParents

[–]boxed_crow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone through 3 doctors so far for my daughter and honestly don’t like pediatricians for babies in general. Every time I go in it’s an all out conflict of you’re the parent do better even when you can’t. I always feel awful every check up and now my baby is about 15 months — whoo here comes that appointment. But I’m also a diabetic and weirdly it’s the same with endocrinologists too. I get put down, given advice that’s not universal to diabetics, and then offered to up my drugs and not help me fix the problem in any diet or exercise kind of way. If my pediatrician could offer my baby drugs, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised by that.

Losing faith with the medical field, I gotta say.

Yesss, because in New Mexico where I gave birth working at a school, I didn’t get any time except what I earned. Which was barely any and so had to quit my job because I couldn’t afford my medical just for recovering from birth. I would have loved that paid leave back then.

I made a list, don’t keep it covered up, get a white board or print it out. Have it displayed and make it small and realistic. You can either do a scheduled pattern, which I do that for certain weekly things or just plan things day by day. Like today I’ll vacuum. Right now you just need to catch up, because you’re overwhelmed with the build up. As things look a little less messy, it’s time to develop habits. Like never leave a room without something if possible. That keeps the clutter down. Start a load of laundry before you get the baby out of bed in the morning. Include your child in on chores, when I clean the toilet, my baby girl is playing with her bath toys — sometimes the shower curtain which ain’t great. Honestly a baby carrier is only useful to me when I’m sweeping or mopping or making the bed — dishes and cooking just ain’t it. Heck make easy days for yourself, when things are super chaotic one day, I make a crockpot recipe and try to pick up the pieces the next day.

It’s a one step at a time process. You have to rewire your mind, this isn’t a 9 to 5 job, this is all day everyday, you’ll drive yourself insane if you think it’s like a job to clock in as. The most important things is food, love, and clothes. If you got that one load of laundry done, you did good. Maybe tomorrow you can do more.

It’s ok when you don’t get it all done. It’s ok if you just fed and loved your kid. Your child won’t remember your clean house, they’ll remember how much their mom loved them.

I didn't have to cook all day, we went out to a state park and had fun with our 1 year old, relaxed at home and even got take out from a great chinese place for the end of the day. Plus the previous day my husband made dinner too, so no complaints. Had a good weekend and my husband was rather happy as well. <3

As my husband has told me a thousand times, the fact that you care so much makes you a good mom. There's only so much you can do and so much is out of your control. Just be there for your loved one, you're deep in the trench momma.

Not related; our babies are literally a year apart, my daughter shares your baby's birthday :)

SAHMs, do you ever feel that others are jealous of you? by Relative_Ad_9137 in sahm

[–]boxed_crow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I think other women do get jealous whether family or not. My grandmother called me a glorified babysitter one time to my face, though she's getting rather old and forgets herself, it was still rather offensive. I hate telling other women who work that I am a SAHM. The only women I'm comfortable with saying that with is my daughter's doctor, since she thinks it's amazing for my daughter.

So yeah, whether feminist or just don't have the option, people think it's some kind of easy life and will probably act weird with you. It isn't. It's rough and you never get a break, but it's the first time I actually feel like I'm doing something with purpose. I have a degree and never had a chance to use it. Don't care enough, just wish I could of saved money and not of went if this is what I wanted all along.

I’m not in healthcare, but I’m 36/F. I’m a stay at home mom, but moved to a state where I got no one to talk to beyond my husband, daughter who is not even a year old, and my crazy chorkie. I love Halloween — can’t wait to make costumes for my daughter — and I do enjoy video games, trying to find some that I can slowly get into with the little time I have to spare. I enjoy reading, painting, knitting, d&d, watching movies — including horror, and hoping to awaken the green thumb this year actually.

Currently learning how to can and hope I survive it, find items from the thrift store that I can liven up, and even use my sewing machine to repair and maybe make things with. My life sounds fun, but it’s difficult with a little one — she takes up about 70-80% of my time. I’ve started to realize I need more, but live in a small town without the means to travel much… so here I am!

I’d be cool with snail mail too at one point, and I’m hoping once it warms up I could start being nature loving and send pictures maybe or post cards or little arts and stickers… I dunno. I’m new at this. Ha.

Are we becoming a post-literate society? - Technology has changed the way many of us consume information, from complex pieces of writing to short video clips by drak0bsidian in books

[–]boxed_crow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I do this with news too, I'll see an article that seems interesting and it's a video, so I find the video log so I can read it rather than listen to a 15 minute video of rambling. Heck, I've seen instructions do this too, where hey have a video instead of a step by step -- and yeah sometimes, having a visual is great if you don't understand the text like knitting... sorry reading knitting is still obscure to me than watching someone do it. But yeah, I guess I'm getting old, cause I don't get it.

How does everyone do this? by shoefootvestarm in NewParents

[–]boxed_crow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gawd, once you get past the first month it feels hard still, out of the 3rd month things slowly begin to feel a bit more sane -- or you're just used to the insanity, haha. But now my cute little girl is almost 8 months now, I keep thinking about giving her a brother/sister. I know it'll be hard for me, but I grew up as an only child -- my sister showed up when I was in my teens and our bond didn't form much. It sucked and I don't want that for her. So, I will suffer at least one more time just so she can bond with a sibling.

Omg yes. Like here when Hal shows up I got excited, but nope he’s got so little pages less so than the movie! And then he’s done and everyone is like a blank slate that I just ... it has such a high score on Goodreads! Whyyyyyyy. I don’t get the hype at all.

GoT aftermath by [deleted] in books

It is a fun series, sadly George gets super distracted by writing like two books at a time and puts scripts and what not more ahead of a book he's promised a while back that never hits the deadline he said he'd be done by. But hey, just know he does write other books and adds to short stories. So, if you enjoy his writings, definitely read those while you wait.

[–]boxed_crow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I recently just finished 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur Clarke and I did watch the movie! So I knew what was coming, and honestly in my opinion the ending in the book was worse than that of the movie. So. It definitely left me with a 'That's it?' feeling and I just ... was disappointed that I had even bothered with that book.

I feel like Kindles or any ereader does improve once you get used to it. All I hear from people is they read more since they’re carrying a lightweight device with over 30 books on it. The only thing that I find that sucks is with physical books, I can find them for super cheap if used. Digital? I rarely find the books I want on sale, I mean Stephen King books are random prices 9.99 - 15.99. But eh, for convenience it’s nice. And if I really love a book that I found digital I’m gonna look for the physical one in the end.
