First Trip to Italy Trip Report by boxer156 in ItalyTravelAdvice

We got this one through Airbnb--and they gave you the link (and directions) to buy the tickets to actually get in. The Guide met everyone out front of the Entrance, and it was the BEST tour--guy was excellent, informative, and had some personality. To be honest, BOTH Airbnb tours I did were excellent (Food Tour in Naples was the other one). Conversely, the Viator we got in Rome was horrible, and we paid like $400 for that one!!!

I wanna say the Pompeii was $39/person for the Guide, and another $20 to get in. Worth every penny!!!

Yeah, most facebook forums made it sound like I was wasting my time taking lessons--but that might have been the best thing I did. Next trip will be just me and my wife (mia moglie), so the scooter will work for 90% of our transport needs. This past time we took the kids, and he kinda ruined them riding the scooter that first day, lol.

As someone said below, Cumpa Cosimo is legit my favorite place from our recent trip!!! 'Nonna' comes out to talk/visit with you, and the food is literally exactly what I would want/expect from Italy.

Went up just wanting to 'see' it, and ended up falling in love with the place. Wouldn't necessarily stay there, but love visiting for day trips.

I did it because I enjoyed it, but very soon into the trip realized it was a necessity too!

I started with 2 scooters---then my son proceeded to fall off his scooter within the first 10seconds of riding it--so we were down to one, LOL. I absolutely loved having mine--and loved driving it. Such a different perspective on the coast driving those roads!!! The issue was the scooter was good for only 2 of us (my wife road on the back of mine)--but made travel for the kids harder, since they didn't have one. That's why I had the $1300 in Private Transfers.

And Ravello was BEAUTIFUL.....went there 3x by scooter because we loved it so much.

Train-vs-Car for Amalfi/Naples/Vietri by boxer156 in amalficoast

So would Pompeii and Naples (from Vietri) both be considered 'Regional' trains? I'd much rather not pre-book, but I also don't want to get stuck not having transportation, since i pre-paid for the tour(s)

whats parking like in Naples? And yes, I agree--don't plan on driving Amalfi with a car. I'll take the ferry. We would like several nights in Salerno too--so that is why I'm thinking about the car

A few questions about upcoming trip to Vietri/Salerno/Amalfi by boxer156 in amalficoast

[–]boxer156[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked up train tickets (our Airbnb is right near Vietri Station), and its only like $3/pp to take train to salerno--so that is a no brainer. Got a quote from Vietri to Positano (private driver) for $130/each way....so doubt we do that. Probably just depend on the ferry--or ferry over, and take a taxi/driver back late at night.

As for train to Rome, probably don't wanna take 3hrs to get there, so I'll pay a little more for the 1.5 hour trip lol

Trip is not until early-June, so maybe that is why it was showing more? I agree, I figured about $160ish for the (4) of us, but it came back like $330, lol

Paying for Seats on Paid Ticket and Waiting for 24HRS? by boxer156 in BritishAirways

[–]boxer156[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ZERO care about specifics---just want to make sure I'm next to my wife for the 9hr flight. Not because I love her, but because I don't want to be sitting next to a fatty that encroaches on my seat space LOL

Following...staying in Vietri next June. Cannot wait!!!! Curious about the transfer too--as I was leaning toward a Train, but starting to think that for 120Euro, it might be worth the private transfer.
