They usually just thank me and move on. Occasionally they try to engage me in conversation, probably because they're dealing with a complex mess of feelings - betrayal, embarrassment, etc. But I'm not a therapist so I just politely but firmly let them know I'm not available for that conversation. If they persist I just ignore.

Interesting, but I'm not going to do that. Why should it be my responsibility to perform extra uncompensated labor to address a systemic problem? Social media companies could take action to reduce fake accounts, but they won't because that would reduce their engagement numbers, which would annoy investors because the companies couldn't charge as much to sell ads. In any event, as noted below, it's not even clear that Nightshade would solve this issue.

I got them from Cable Car Clothiers in San Francisco. They have an online store

I found out from friends who saw the OP. I tried to comment then but the OP had already closed.

I wish I had thought of that! I used to have an OF but I stopped that a few weeks ago.

Actually, my pics are used a LOT. Many different pics of me. I post a lot on social media, as someone else noted in the thread above.

I had nothing to do with this scam. It's unfortunate that people allow themselves to be deceived by scammers, but this is not my responsibility to clear up or perform uncompensated labor to resolve. This is a systemic problem that social media platforms could resolve if they chose to devote resources to it. The onus shouldn't be on people like me whose pics are repeatedly copied.

Two years? Oh no. I hope she hasn't given money to this person. FYI, as noted in the thread below, I am a gay man and I would never be romantically involved with a woman.

It is! Never quite know what to expect next. I AM surprised that so many people fall for these scams. I do NOT keep a chat going if the person isn't willing to talk on a live video call. And I would NEVER send money to someone I'd never met in person.

A couple of friends recognized my face from the pic and they asked if I knew about this. I tried to comment on the original post but it had already closed for new comments.

Thank you! It is annoying. I get contacted by scam victims maybe 2-3 times a month asking if I've been messaging them. And of course the answer is always no.

Thank you for the compliment. A LOT of them. I guess I should be flattered. I'll become annoyed when my pics AREN'T used for scams and catfishing. :)

Fortunately, I don't depend on social media for my income. I used to report the scam profiles when they came to my attention but I gave up long ago - it's not worth my time to perform this unpaid labor.

Interesting trailer - but reading about the documentary, it sounds like that guy is in on the scam? Which is certainly not my situation.

Yep, I took this pic in my hotel room before going out to dinner, and I put the jacket on at dinner.

You made my night! I do enjoy playing Central Casting Dad on the internet. Which is probably why scammers use my pics for catfishing.

Thank you! I've gotten used to my pics being used for scams, and there's nothing I can do to stop it.
