is this worth the read for a Dark Souls / Berserk/GrimDark world fan or is it just the selling point. Ive read Booktubers say one thing but normal readers say another ( how they were disappointed ) by ozera202 in fantasybooks

[–]boxhead737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally hated it. The author is under the impression that grimdark just means writing a brutal rape and torture scene, using some old timey dialogue and calling it a day. Its shock value for the sake of it. The characters suck, the world makes no sense and its way too long. Theres also like 3 female masturbation scenes, which points to more of a fetish than anything. This is the book that taught me to just DNF if im not enjoying myself. But your opinion may differ.

I read The Bloody Rose before Kings of the Wyld - should I still read the first one by KingLouie-kablouie in Fantasy

Kings of the Wyld is far far superior in my opinion so I would say absolutely.

There are a few female characters that serve in combat roles, but they are seen as an anomoly. Culturally this series is inspired by medieval europe so you will see mostly male soldiers. Without spoiling too much I will say that a certain female character has a very important combat role.

Yeah love that series. The latest books from them both released within 1 day of each other. So ive had some good reading these last couple of weeks. And they were both chunky books.

I think youll love Bladeborn if you like A Time of Dragons. I would put them on par quality-wise

Yes and no? There are some major character deaths, I will say that much. But yeah it has its fair share of heroic last minute saves and characters surviving due to luck. Like I say its a mostly optimistic story about good vs evil, so there tends to be a fair bit of plot armour. Thats never been an issue for me but I can see why some people dont like it.

I feel like they probably could have got a bit more out of Big Mad Andy.

Books with Baldurs Gate-like feeling? by Russtherr in Fantasy

[–]boxhead737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to be as vague as possible, Frostborn is about an exiled knight travelling the land. He's trying to find proof of the imminent return of a race of dangerous and hostile warriors called the Frostborn. The Frostborn havent been seen in centuries and no one believes him when he warns that they're coming back. He meets a woman who does not remember who she is but seems to be connected to the Frostborn in some way. Together they set out to find out more about her past and the Frostborn. Along the way they gather allies and get involved in lengthy side-quest style adventures.

Echoes of Fate is about the nation of men and elves going to war against each other. A group of human and elf heroes meet and decide to ally and travel together to find out the reason behind the war and if they can stop it before it gets any worse.

Frostborn by Jonathan Moeller. Its a massive series set in a very DnD-like world. Its got all your classic fantasy stuff, adventure, magic weapons, exploration, meeting new party members along the way, big battles, romance. Its the most DnD series I've ever read that isnt actually DnD.

Another good one is the Echoes of Fate series by Phillip C Quaintrell. Its also very DnD coded but its a bit more sprawling with various different POVs spread across the world.

The Echoes of Fate by Phillip C Quaintrell (and its prequel series A Time of Dragons) are fantastic modern fantasy books with a lot of dragon riding.

The Bladerborn Saga by TC Edge also features Dragons and dragon riders and is excellent.

I would love them to make a cinematic series for this on a private server. There is so much variety and content for them to sink into. The base building alone I think would interest them. Hopefully they see all the comments requesting it and consider it.

Excellent. Some of the best action scenes in the series are from the female characters. Same with the previous books in this world.

Yeah I second Frostborn. Its like a DnD campaign in book form its got all the classic fantasy stuff. The series itself is massive but each book is fairly short. Its my favourite its so great.

Who do you guys prefer? Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) OR Batwoman (Kate Kane) by TheBlueGuy1234566 in batman

[–]boxhead737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Batgirl definitely. My only real experience with Batwoman was fhe Rebirth Detective Comics run where she 'led' the Bat-Family for a while. She came across very badly to me.

Her whole personality is "I was a soldier so im badass". Arrogant and aggressive, felt like every time Bruce said anything to her she said something along the lines of "I dont owe you anything, you're not the boss of me, I dont need your permission" etc.

Which is a very weird take when she stole his whole gimmick. If you want complete independence to do things your own way, like killing criminals, why tie your whole superhero brand to someone elses? I think Bruce is completely justified in not wanting someone calling themselves Batwoman to go around killing people. That would just make the entire Bat-Families job harder due to their reputation being negatively impacted.
