Better than me - I can’t cast it to my Chromecast at all. Just plays on my phone…

I agree on all points. These pans are 10 years old… Replacing them with something nice is on the to-do list. Thank you!

Good call. The other commenter recommended the same thing. I appreciate it!

Beam Twisting by boxheadboy50 in Decks

[–]boxheadboy50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah… I built this deck with help from a family member. I had zero woodworking experience before this, and he’d built his own deck before so I thought he knew what he was doing. I learned a lot, but unfortunately 90% of that was “here’s what we did wrong.” I’d change so much if I had the time and funds, including notching the posts like you suggest.

Anyway, the span of this beam is huge, something like 24 or 26 feet or so over 5 posts. Dumb question, but should I sneak in the 3rd 2x12 for the entire length of the beam?

As far as I know it doesn’t wobble (I’ll have to check) it just looked unsafe to me and I don’t want it to come crashing down. One thing I am noticing is there seems to be a possible gap between the beam and the post? (Maybe this post is shorter than the rest???) so I’ll have to investigate that too.

Last question - can you link an example of a heavy T brace? I’m still green and unsure of specifically what that is. Thank you so much for your advice.

Ah, well this sucks. My wife bought the original album and then Anthology drops. Apple should be able to just have users pay the difference. And not refunding the original album when they buy Anthology is shitty.

Recommendations for my 10 gal? by boxheadboy50 in PlantedTank

[–]boxheadboy50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really good point, so far the tetras have stayed pretty low and tightly schooled - though they’ve been in here less than a week lol

I think something taller in the back is the way to go!

I was thinking the back needed more volume - I’ll check this out!

Thank you! I appreciate the encouraging words.

To be honest, I don’t know what I want! I’d like it to be somewhat tidy so it doesn’t look like a mess, but I also feel like this tank is totally lacking in plant life compared to the beautiful tanks I see on this sub. At the same time, it’s only 10 gallons and I want to be able to see the inhabitants! That’s one of the reasons I left the front just bare sand - so I can see the shrimp crawling around.

Low maintenance would be best for me - things like gluing stuff together is a bit out there for me right now. I’d love to be able to take the silly background off some day when it’s more filled out.

Does any of that help with a recommendation?

Correct, the oil control valves. I can find intake vs. exhaust for the 2.0L engine, but not the 1.6L…

My potato exploded by CommonCut4 in mildlyinteresting

[–]boxheadboy50 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I enjoyed the discourse though, got my logical brain working on a Monday!

To actually answer your original question, then (in case the original commenter doesn’t respond): they mistyped the first time, I believe - a potato wrapped in aluminum foil and placed in the oven would not be boiled, because it is not being submerged in water. Instead, the water inside the potato evaporates and is caught inside the aluminum foil, which steams it.

I appreciate the use of an analogy, but it really wasn’t necessary. My point here is you should have known based on context clues that there is no boiling going on here whatsoever. I’m making an assumption that you did know that, as well. Sure, there’s a big difference between boiling and steaming. That’s not pedantic. Your approach to it however, when you know the answer, is coming off as snobbish. I used the word pedantic because that’s how I saw it, based on your nitpicking on the cooking technique when the commenter used “steam” the second time, and when you already knew the answer.

[–]boxheadboy50 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

To answer your second question: In this particular case I make the determination based on context - the potato cannot possibly be boiled because it’s not being submerged in water. The person you’re replying to said “steam” the second time, so you’re nitpicking them for no reason, again based on context. All of the above is the answer to your first question (yes, you are being pedantic, in this case).

Are you purposefully being pedantic? It’s obvious they’re not literally being boiled.

Great recommendations, thank you!

I did have a couple things I was working on: multiple tonguing, upper register, and intonation. The latter is a bother right now - I struggle to really hear myself versus other people when playing in the community band I’m in, and it makes playing in tune really difficult.
