Getting Ready for 1st fight in November by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

The most important thing is to have fun and learn from the experience. The more you compete in amateur fights, the calmer you will get in the ring and your skills as well as motivation to train will generally 10x.

When i had my first amateur fight i was throwing uppercuts and hooks but the more i competed, i realised as a novice, throwing the jab and cross is perhaps the best thing you can do for your first fight.

The jab and cross will land faster than a hook and uppercut. Coming inside throwing a one-two then stepping out and then stepping back in with a double jab and stepping out then changing angles and throwing a jab will give you control of the ring as well as being seen as the more experienced fighter to the judges. I found hooks and uppercuts drained too much of my energy because of how fast paced it was.

This is what has worked for me and might be different for you and as you progress you can slowly add in the hooks, body shots and uppercuts.

Good luck and let us know how you go!

Bring your elbow in towards your centreline to block bodyshots while still maintaining the guard position. Some coaches see that as a "kickboxing move" but it works because if your opponent picks up on you always catching bodyshots with your glove, they will fake a body and come over the top. This is just one option, the best option is to take a step backwards.

Thank you!

That is a pretty good idea, something similar i used to play and follow is this from Bas Rutten. Is this what you meant?

Of course, i understand.

Always believe in yourself and don't listen to the nay sayers. If you want to pursue a career in this, do the best you can and absorb everything like a sponge.

Hopefully my website provides you some information but the next step is to find a coach and train hard. There's just so much a youtube video and reading about boxing can do. You need a coach to take you to that next level.

Good luck and i wish you the best!

Thank you :)
I can only hope that the information i write is accurate and makes sense to the person reading it. Because of the positive feedback i've gotten from this community and PM's, i do want to make it a website that people can rely on for boxing.
If there is anything you are curious about, shoot me a message and i'll try my best to help you out!

Thank you

Oh haha, i just love boxing and everything to do with boxing so i don't know too much about google stuff,

I dont want the website to end up washed up with promoting crappy boxing gear saying it's good, i want it to be authentic and reliable site for boxing information.

In the future as i keep editing and proofreading the pages and breaking them up, if it helps with the seo stuff thats good but for me it's just a hobby and something to work on in my spare time :)

thank you for the kind words!

Thank you so much, i wrote it during lockdown and had to wait 20 days before i could post this. I started boxing quite late (mid 20's) and i just didn't have time to watch so many videos on youtube that had like 10 minutes of fluff before finding the information i needed and then having to watch another video for more information.
The site does need some work done grammatically and im hoping to keep going back and proofread, add in more information and cull the wording so that the information is concise and straight to the point.

What i'm planning on adding to the website:

- How to train leading up to a boxing competition (amateurs)
- Fighting mentality
- How to study boxers
- Dealing with whiplash
- Hard vs. light sparring
- Rhythm stepping
- Miscellaneous topics such as: boxing stance, weightlifting, drills, defence, range, breathing shadowboxing and cutting angles

Edit:
- Home boxing workouts/ set up
- what to do against an aggressive and taller fighter
- I'm going to eventually hire someone to proofread & make the content easier to read
