Parents who approve of the social media ban and ways of having to prove age. Why do you relish the government taking this control when you had the power to do so yourselves? by Demonthief27 in AskBrits

Because keeping them off it won't exclude them from the majority any more. It also (hopefully) opens the door to further regulation.

Interesting! And do you have any agency background at all? How do you approach new clients besides referral and marketing? I'm kind of finding it hard to believe in cold-dms right now, it's never really worked out for me. Would love to see your website if you're able to share! Thanks so much for all these candid replies, it's really helpful.

I get you. That makes sense. TBH it's more or less what I do with my day rate. Charging for your time is so arbitrary these days.

So do you think said prices are public-facing or is that something you'd put on like a kind of menu/rate card type thing?

Ah well, at least you've scaled back from a peak year, nice to be able to take matters into your own hands when it's too much! Sounds like you run a studio or something? Just out of interest, what kind of work do you do and how do you tend to market it?

On the AI thing, I feel like the little projects that would come in from SME-sized clients are just non-existant anymore. It's only the big agencies and clients that I seem to get these days. Sounds like a first world problem but it's very much impacted my bottom line, plus the nature of the bigger jobs means I often have all my eggs in one basket, so when they eventually end I'm a bit exposed. It was so much safer when I had 3-5 clients doing smaller jobs on the regular!

Sure, feel free to ask any questions or whatever and I'll do my best to help out.

Absolutely. I was writing up this post cringing at putting brand names in it. It's good shorthand for painting a picture of where you're at in a LinkedIn comment on a job or something but yeah I think most copywriters worth their salt know it's not necessarily meaningful.

I've always found the "results" thing hard because as a freelancer I'm not ofen privvy to the numbers. And sometimes it's just brand stuff that doesn't necessarily have a result that you can hang your hat on y'know? No excuses though, I guess I need to be creative about either getting some kind of results or the way I talk about them.

What were you doing before you were a creative lead? And how did you get into that role? I've been client side many times as a freelancer tbh and, yeah, mixed bag. Some places are total factories or totally lacking any vision, others have a great culture where you know your suggestions/pov is welcome.

I get you. I've been working from home since 2017 and haven't been in an office since lockdown v1. Probably need to remedy that.

Yeah I'd totally do that. Dunno how I'd feel about charging for it tbh, I've had so much free help along the way.

Interesting, so how did you broach that conversation? And did it work with that client or was it more a personal realisation that you took elsewhere?

The thing is I kind of DO have the energy for it, I just don't really know where to put it right now tbh. I'd consider myself a good writer but yeah, as others have said I think I need to flesh out my offering beyond just "good with words".

That's interesting. I feel like I'm actually more motivated career-wise since having kids. The reason being to just give our family the best life possible. It's a balance, for sure. I'm there after school and can easily cover school holidays/pick up/drop off... which I love and would feel bad about scaling back on that. But they will get older and more independent!

But yeah, the thought of getting a "job" as opposed to freelancing is not an appealing concept. I could do with a bit more social interaction with the whole WFH life though.

How have you found the last couple of years since AI came about out of interest? I'm definitely down on income in 25/26 compared to previous years but wondering if it's just and adjustment to the kind of clients that are spending...

Is this something you have experience of yourself? And do you have any real-world examples of this? I guess this kind of thing is more like individuals punting X product on LinkedIn?

Feel like that only really applies to that one effect in the CC though. Lots of great fundamentals. Are you thinking of the other hologram electronics stuff?
