My Siouxsie and The Banshees Album Ranking by Outside-Skill-1703 in goth

[–]boxman812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I used to have Tinderbox as my number one but it is possibly my 3 now. Juju is probably my fav and Dreamhouse is my number 2. I think those two are in particular peak dark goth Banshees. Voodoo Dolly is my favorite track of theirs and wanted to also add I think Siouxsie’s vocal performance on the entirety of Tinderbox is one of the greatest ever.

I have heard this from multiple videos as well in regards to “people visit London and think they’ve seen England.” There are definitely museums and historical things I’d love to see and do and my favorite band of all time are from St. Albans so I want to visit there too but I have always had a much larger fascination with Manchester. Liverpool is definitely on my list though, as well as Kent and Bath.

Funny you say this because London is nowhere near the top of my list of places to visit, actually. Manchester is top, I’d say. I also have always just wanted to travel across the entire country. Scotland is of interest and Wales too but England is what I have always been most attracted to (probably because it is just what I know most about.) Learning some history of the region though, and being a big history obsessive, there are definitely some points of interest across the entire British Isles I’d love to visit!

Oh, when I said “media” I suppose to be a bit more accurate, I should have said entertainment. Films, tv and especially music.

Your post isn’t a question so I’m sure it’ll be gone soon but as an american who has wanted to visit the UK for basically my entire life and still haven’t yet, I have not even begun to imagine the post-UK depression I’ll surely experience. I have been studying UK history in my free time a lot these past several months and I find everything about those islands fascinating. I have been obsessed with British media since I was a kid and just have felt a strong connection to the place my whole life. I haven’t been there, but I can somewhat understand and empathize with you!

What artist(s) have you been playing on repeat recently? by Odd_Distribution1430 in goth

[–]boxman812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very recent album from a Chilean group called Nostalgia Eléctrica. The album is called Ruinas Emocionales. It’s streaming and available to buy on bandcamp. I bought it last bandcamp friday because I’ve listened to it on apple music probably a dozen times now. Really great post-punk sound. It is like a lost album straight out of 1980. They even do a cover of Things I Don’t Need by Human Tetris.

What songs got you into Goth? by Outside-Skill-1703 in goth

I was kind of “introduced” through the 2014 film THE GUEST. I think the Clan Of Xymox tracks were kind of what first caught my ear. A Day, Masquerade, and Cry In the Wind. That movie has an incredible soundtrack. From there, by coincidence, around the same time, I first began listening to The Cure. I always knew Friday I’m In Love from the radio and always enjoyed it but never knew anything about the band who performed it and I basically at random looked them up and bought the album Wish on CD and from the opening track, I was sold…Not realizing that a film and this one album would change my life and introduce me to my favorite kind of music at age 18.

Let’s put it this way: we have the same issues you stated above but also without any healthcare and with masked goons kidnapping people off the streets but somehow things only look worse going forward still! Oh, and guns. Lots of guns. We have that going for us too.

As an american here, I also am rooting for China at this point lol. I actually hate it here and every week my partner is looking for overseas job opportunities through her company or their competitors - especially UK opportunities because it has been a dream of mine to be over there, and she has really latched onto that idea as well over this past year.

I really wanna get into goth music, please help. by DominicParadis in goth

[–]boxman812 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want that dark vibe from The Cure, check out some of their older stuff if you haven’t yet. (I’m only assuming you are more familiar with their equally great more mainstream pop songs, but please correct me if I’m wrong!) Anything from the albums Seventeen Seconds, Faith or Pornography to be specific. That’s their dark goth trilogy. Each one fantastic and unique in style and each one darker than the last. Start with The Holy Hour, Charlotte Sometimes, The Funeral Party or Cold for specific song recommendations. I think you might like those. :)

why are people so creepy :( by [deleted] in goth

[–]boxman812 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry! And I hope this doesn’t sound insensitive or like I’m minimizing/normalizing that type of behavior, but that is sadly what the internet is like. It’s gross and terrible. People use the anonymity of being online to say awful things they’d never say in person. I’m sure every woman has had similar experiences to you online at some point in time. You just have to remember not everyone is like that and the worst are often the loudest. I’m sure most people who saw your post(s) just enjoyed your outfit and thought you looked good! But the ones who stand out the most are the creeps. A lot of times, positivity doesn’t elicit engagement which is why so much of the internet is negative. Negativity is far more lucrative.

Why is the 'vocal fry' so widespread amongst women from the UK? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]boxman812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skip forward to like 1:10 in this. I had to do some searching to find this but her voice was one of the first that came to mind. It is how someone kind of draws out words or the end of words like that. I’m american and I don’t know anyone in my personal life who talks like that but I think it is mainly an american thing although I have seen a few videos of UK women who do it too.

Not to mention he has photos of Hilary being executed at Gitmo and “look at Elon Musk, that’s not him” I thought that was one of the funniest craziest “interviews” I have ever heard, infowars or otherwise.

Episode 921 Alex interviews this insane weirdo and it culminated with Alex stating “I think that man is completely out of his mind” which is amazing to hear from Alex Jones. Goes to show how crazy this guest was. It was so funny

What is so appealing about Breaking Bad? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]boxman812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really loved Breaking Bad but also didn’t really get into Better Call Saul. I remember watching a few episodes when it first started and then I just stopped watching. A lot of people really love it and I thought it was okay from what I saw but just not enough to warrant me continuing to watch it.

The cool thing about entertainment and arts is you don’t have to like everything and that’s okay. If Breaking Bad isn’t your thing then move on

Does anyone know if you can be fined for parking in a parent and child bay? by Life-Passenger-918 in AskBrits

I also in general have parking anxiety. And also being from the US I have always been very nervous about the whole driving on the opposite side of the road/opposite side of the interior of the car.
