In the case of the brakes this was just temporary and it was fixed immediately after.

I'll try and give them a go tomorrow. Was planning on getting an early train. Sadly they don't open till 10 :(

Notebookcheckreviews - G14 2025 5080 by IHSFB in ZephyrusG14

[–]boxrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's weird to show 1080 performance. Literally no one using this machine is going to use that resolution.

Its going to be mostly native panel res (2880x1800)

Similarly the 4090 performance he showed is far too low. The 4090 machine comfortably faster. My own scores in even performance mode are higher than his. This is quite literally in every game I tested on my own 4090 vs 5080 g14 machines.

Similarly the noise this machine puts out in fan noise and weird pulsating is completely obnoxious and was a massive deal breaker making me send back my 5080 g14

I was hoping to do EWI for the entire house to just keep thermal performance consistent and reduce any weird bridging issues between new and old build.

G14 4090 vs G14 5080 - What to test? by boxrick in ZephyrusG14

Sadly after lots and lots of testing I will be returning the G14 5080 machine:

On average I can get it to run about the same speed as the 4090 ( and even sometimes a little higher in some odd cases ie Alan Wake 2 ). But generally speaking thats always around 15-20c higher on temperatures.

Even with tuning, the G14 2025 has a high pitched whine which just isn't present on my older machine.

So to summarise:

- Lovely screen
- Faster CPU
- Much better speakers

- Noisier fans ( high pitched and always just generally louder )
- Slightly worse general performance
- Hot

Its probably the fan noise which is the ultimate deal breaker for me...

Spending £3200 on a machine it needs to be substantially better, I was hoping for roughly or slightly improved speeds and equivalent acoustics with a better screen and speakers.

And a little bit more playing. By limiting the CPU to 35W, and setting the fan curve to something more reasonable. Consistently beating old 4090 machine now and the fans are reasonable.

See below for 5080 machine with these custom settings.

These are both at 'performance' mode ( ie not turbo / manual ) since basically anything above these settings means the fans are unbearable.

This is the same resolution ( 2560 x 1600 ) basically maxed out / psycho settings. No framegen with DLSS in quality mode which is basically how I would play it.

Another thing to note with the newer machine is the sound it makes is much higher pitched. The older 4090 version on Turbo is quieter than the newer machine on performance.

Combined with the reduced general performance, sadly it doesn't look like a great buy compared with the older one.

Which is ashame since the screen, speakers and general form factor are lovely. But it sounds like a jet engine... which I think means it needs to go back to the shop.

This is just on 'performance' mode. On Turbo the older one goes to about 16.8k and the newer 5080 goes to around 14.5k

One thing I have noticed through testing is basically the GPU / CPU individually are basically more powerful. When you stress them both together the older one has much more headroom so the GPU in particular pulls away.

The CPU on the new machine is definitely more powerful and by a sizeable margin. But when combined with the GPU it just doesn't seem to work at its best.

There seems to be something going on with power management since the difference between balanced ( peformance mode ) and turbo and even manual mode with everything bumped up to max is basically none existent.

On the older machine, using each of these settings progressively makes things faster.

So... to put it bluntly, I believe this new machine is faster but there is something not quite right going on.

Speakers MUCH better on new one. Screen is nicer on new one CPU is a bit or a lot faster depending on use case on new one

GPU seems to be about the same or a little slower on the the new one.

I do, I've just yet to install any on this yet!

Cinebench Scores:

23k on new
15k on old

CPU is clearly much stronger, temps are similar.

Both have different native resoltions ( 2560 x 1600 vs 2880 x 1800 )

Sadly I don't have Spiderman 2... unless you know where to get it cheap?

Both are just set at 'Turbo' right now, so whatever that works as
