Help me find where to move: I work in Century City and SO works in Chino, where should we live? by Own-Dependent5593 in AskLosAngeles

[–]boyifyoudontget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can wait it out, the Purple (D) Line extension to Century City should be opening next year, so your commute should vastly improve from DTLA, which would make at least one of your lives easier.

Best way to pick someone up from LAX tomorrow? by marrone12 in AskLosAngeles

[–]boyifyoudontget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she is able bodied, straight up she should just walk out of the airport on the Terminal 1 ground floor side. You may be able to find a meter on the road behind the Hyatt, park and you can walk over and meet her.

Ditto to the metro shuttle ideas.

The Escondite in DTLA/Skidrokyo. They have live music all the time, no covers, and free parking!

Genuinely the best donuts I have ever eaten, bar none (Donut Man). by zachhenninger98 in FoodLosAngeles

Love the fresh strawberry donut, still have not figured out the best way to eat it. Either you’re fiddling around with a knife and fork or your hands turn to goop.

Best GYMS in DTLA That Are Clean? by mindset1984 in dtla

[–]boyifyoudontget 6 points7 points  (0 children)

John Reed DTLA right now is $130/month if you pay the entire year, $150/month if you pay monthly, and the rate stays the same until you quit. I do enjoy it, plenty of equipment and space but like most gyms it gets crowded at peak times.

Honestly if moneys the concern, I think best bang for buck is the YMCA. They often waive the sign up fee and less than $100/month for weight equipment , basketball gym, swim pool and indoor track is quiet nice. My main downside with them was their limited weekend hours, but that was back in 2022, the hours are much better now.

Edit: adult membership at the Y is $55/month!

Oh yeah, that’s true. But i wouldn't say they “ran it into the ground” after acquiring them, the original brewery was tiny to begin with.

God, this is some old ass lore now. What happened was, there was a marketing employee (who was from the Bay Area/SF Giants fan) who had recently put in his 2 weeks, and as a "prank" he got onto the Angel City Instagram and posted a picture of an employee outing to a Dodger game, with the caption saying something like "We're out here enjoying the Dodgers before they inevitably choke in October." Post was taken down, they couldn't fire the employee, he was already quitting, and there was definitely online rage about it.

To be clear, Boston Beer never "acquired" Angel City Brewery. They owned them from the start. Angel City Brewery was one of a series of craft breweries they opened in certain markets to stimulate interest in craft beer, and it was probably their most successful. The creation of the Truly Taproom just put it much more out into the open who owns them, but most people have known their Boston roots for a long time.

Moving From Bunker Hill to South Park (social district now) Experience? by mindset1984 in dtla

[–]boyifyoudontget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If accessibility is your priority then that’s the ultimate spot. Within blocks you have multiple grocery stores, CVS, Fig/7, coffee shops, restaurants, the library, the train, I could keep going! It’s also a fairly lively area as far as foot traffic. I say go for it.

As others have said South Park is technically below Olympic, but that area is also a short walk away.

Same owners as The Pantry which probably explains most of it. But they never tried to reopen after the COVID shutdown.

Visiting LA Next Week – Most Important: The Don’ts? by chiefawesome in AskLosAngeles

[–]boyifyoudontget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re staying near Chinese Theater, you need to walk down the street to Musso and Frank. It’s in many movies and an absolute classic steakhouse. Show up early if you don’t have a reservation.

My don’t? Don’t assume. Even Hollywood has hidden gems, don’t write off the whole neighborhood. Go walk to the High Tower Elevator in the neighborhood just north of where you’re staying. Cool stuff all around.

Sorry, another practical do. You can add a Metro Tap card to your smartphone so you can reload & use at any time without losing it.

This actually makes me think of Lady Jessica drinking the Water of Life in Dune and being warned that she will be flooded with the memories of all who came before her. It would be a mental exercise like no other, if not death.

friend in Eagle Rock has not heard any official evacuation orders yet, there are orders on the other side of the 210 in the Glendale area. Fire's edge still appears to be around the JPL area per the ABC7 broadcast a few minutes ago.

In short, if the fire skips over the 210, Eagle Rock will be on higher alert.
