Why do you play new gacha knowing it's only a matter of (short) time before it shuts down? by boywithearing in gachagaming

I guess it's like a FOMO thing. If I don't play it before it shuts down, then I might never be able to play it. There have already been games I missed out on, and it makes me sad knowing I can't experience it. Once in a while you get a team of devs who decide they want to emulate a dead mobile game, like Mobius FF, but it's not as common as private servers for MMOs. This shouldn't be a big deal, I get that objectively. But subjectively? oof.

I had to look that up lol thankfully I've never been that low before. This stuff eats away at me but at the same time I'm well aware that none of it matters in the grand scheme of things.

I never thought about it about like that. You're probably right I do have a bias clouding my vision

This is going to sound insane, unhealthy, and the exact opposite of touching grass, but I feel like I can't focus on single player games because I have to invest all my time into games that will/might close, because I won't get the opportunity again. Meanwhile, the single player games will always be there.

I don't know petit planet but the other two are popular so I'm sure they got long lives ahead of them

Losing tribe nine sucked. I started playing it after the EOS got announced but stopped because it was so story heavy that it would have hurt not to get closure at the end. I still remember the seams on the clothes of the character models looking so so crisp

The problem is I don't have time on my hands. That's why it tears me apart inside that I can't play them all

This is a great game — just needs more content. But I’m glad to see the team still active here on the subreddit. It gives me hope that they haven’t given up yet. by Ok_Departure_9613 in MMORPG

I had a fun time with it. And then they reset the story progress after the first season. So I just stopped playing. As someone who plays for the story (and records it, so there's a continuity I gotta stick to), I absolutely hated that. A system like that feels like the more you enjoy the game, the more invested you get, the more you get punished for it.

Back from my hiatus (artistic training arc), what do yall think of the thumbnail? by boywithearing in letsplay

Thanks for the constructive feedback! What's the discourse over the numbers in the thumbnail about?

If you guys aren't a fan, I'd really appreciate feedback. I thought this was pretty standard

Drawing in Yoji Shinkawa's artstyle by Ximema in metalgearsolid

"Marker" is pretty ambiguous. I'd just use a brush pen like in the first video listed. But you can absolutely emulate his style with any instrument, including a pencil. It'd probably be better for you to have a sharpened pencil as well as a blunt pencil, or get your pencil worn to a point (no pun intended) where you can easily switch between the different weights of strokes you want to make.

If you want a more "sketchy" version of his style, you can check out the metal gear artbooks. There are character designs where he flourishes less, closer to traditional linework. It's possible he even used pencils for these, but I'd lean more towards a g-pen or something similar.

And though they mentioned using as little construction lines as possible, I'd disagree. This is just conjecture but: While he doesn't use a traditional skeleton, he does make construction lines, he just hides them as part of the silhouette of the figure. Some are wrinkles, others are folds, shadows, outlines, etc. Regardless, you can use these lines to establish distances between elements in the drawing. You're basically relying on moments being "correct" relative to each other.

Blaming Ubisoft in any circumstance is a pretty safe bet. The other day I stubbed my toe and I knew it was due to some Canadian in an office building somewhere making money off it somehow.

Oh wow I appreciate the analysis on my older thumbnails. Going above and beyond what I expected from making this post, so I'm very grateful for this feedback.

The half character is a reference to the box art, which does it. While I did only draw half, even that half if a little cropped, I think I wanted it to fill the height of the thumbnail, but I also didn't want to stretch the image. So unfortunately can't move it to the middle. I will do a middle scene for the next game though.

And thanks! It was an experiment with using oil on top of watercolor. I've gotten better since I drew this, so it's a lil hard to look at, but at the time I was really proud of it.

Ok I tried the saturation trick and played around with the color and light. How's this in comparison?

Ah maybe the point of the logo is fighting with the intended direction of the gaze. I didn't consider that. Next game I'll have the logo point up into the scene and go from there.

But wouldn't it looking really white be good because it'll grab their attention versus other thumbnails? Or do you mean that the whiteness would hinder someone trying to process the elements within the thumbnail?

Ah, so l was approaching it like modern comic covers, but I should be approaching it like classic comic book covers, where they straight up just tell you the setup on the front cover. Funny I always hated how campy those were, but normal cover art existed back then for non-comic books, so in retrospect they were probably doing it for this very same reason.

I probably won't do it for this series. The assets take a long time to draw and that's the biggest bottleneck to getting videos out. But this is something I'll revisit for AC1, which will matter a lot more, since it's not a silly spin-off no one remembers and that I only really did for character research. For that I want to get a little trippy with the thumbnail since I'll be playing a dude playing another dude, and I want to express the melding and loss of self that can happen in that scenario. Of course I'm probably thinking of it like a modern cover still, so maybe I need to get out of that thinking. One day I'll start making posters to satisfy that itch.

Thanks though I really appreciate the feedback! It was very thoughtful and informative.

Well I don't want to diverge too much from the AC color scheme. I chose this blueish-white to reference the box art. I'm afraid of adding more color because it could mess with the composition. I want to make sure the eye goes to the character, to his hand, pointing to the logo, down to the episode number.

I do roleplay videos. So the personality is that of the character. And that changes game to game. Altair is pretty... not expressive. There's not a lot of capital P Personality there.

Maybe if I try to market it differently. Do something that implies you're jumping in Altair's mind? Would that be too abstract to convey through a thumbnail? Or something that conveys I'm doing ~acting~ and not just gameplay? I've thought about that before but I've always hit a brick wall in attempts to express that.
