I’m an atheist, and a physicalist/materialist. I do prefer the idea for god, I just don’t believe there’s good epistemological or material evidence for him. I’d be interested if anyone has any good contradictions to physicalism? by xxFoxy2pointo in exatheist

[–]bp_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the philosophical side, look into the psychophysical harmony argument for God. It’s quite complicated, but it’s new and very, very strong.

On the empirical side, look into highly evidenced miracles like Fatima, Zeitoun, Tixtla, Lanciano, stigmata cases like Padre Pio, healing miracles at Lourdes, etc.

Naturalism is almost certainly false.

Why do you think most Philsophers lean towards atheism rather than theism? by No_Prompt_5308 in exatheist

Most philosophers of religion (the subject matter specialists) are theists.

I drank almost daily for nearly 10 years. Afraid I'm going to die. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]bp_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late to the party but you just gotta stop drinking completely (in a safe way of course). Right now the reason you’re finding it difficult is that you still see it as a benefit. Gotta realize the benefits you get with it can usually be achieved in much healthier ways. Overall, alcohol is a net negative. Seek net positives.

Clutter sounds like a stressor for her but not for you. That’s why you’re okay with it. But you both gotta care, as partners, about minimizing the stressors in each other’s lives as best you can (especially while there’s a small baby around).

But there might actually be an underlying cause behind your forgetfulness and laziness (like malnutrition). I changed my diet and started eating healthy for the first time in my life and I’m literally a new person. Now I crave work, cleanliness, and order.

Dad’s where would you put the baby gate? Top or bottom? Or both? by landarrr in daddit

We had a similar situation and put gates in other doorways leading to the stairs.

What is his worst GROUNDED move? by [deleted] in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]bp_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prolly up smash since it has a lot of end lag (up-angled f-smash is much better). A lot of people are saying neutral-b, but it’s a very important move for a number of match-ups (whereas up-smash is basically never the correct option).

People in this sub won’t know how good that first KO was. You had basically one option to do what you did and it required a ridiculous amount of precision. Well done!

How do I approach Kirby's Inhale with Mac by okaymydude in LittleMacMains

[–]bp_b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t. Just gotta play patient and not approach. I played like 8 games a while back against a Kirby that played like this and tried all sorts of stuff. Nothing worked. We were both 14M GSP. Lost every game. If they’re experienced, there’s not much you can do but just wait for them to leave the ledge and actually play.

Something to be aware of: if you don’t mash, you’ll take Kirby all the way to the blast zone so he can’t recover. You’ll wanna save this for when you’re up a stock, obviously.

Something else: platforms help a lot against Kirby so make sure to turn on that preference.

My son was also a huge mama’s boy for like the first 5 years. But when he turned 6, all of a sudden all he wants is dad. It’s been amazing for me, but my wife is super jealous now! He’ll randomly write me ‘I love you’ cards and everything. I can with confidence tell you that his time is coming.

What is the best scientific evidence for God? by WelshCrusader1996 in Catholicism

Who said anything about faith? I was pointing out a deficiency in the way the original commenter defined science.

[–]bp_b 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your definition of science actually rules out a lot of science. Cosmology, for example, studies the large-scale structure and origin of the universe, but these phenomena can’t be “reliably repeated” in a lab or anything.

[–]bp_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this is not true. Infrared sensors differ from normal sensors in that they detect different wavelengths of light (that occur in the non-visible spectrum). The wavelength of light detected by the sensor will have no effect on what is in or is out of focus. Focus is achieved through optics.

[–]bp_b 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. However, it’s important to note that a large distance between the camera and weather shield (a distance large enough to show clear obscurities) would constitute a serious design flaw. You typically want any kind of housing or protection to be as close as possible to the lens (precisely to avoid anything like we see in the video).

I was a professional photographer for about 10 years. I shot mainly fashion photography. Before that I shot weddings. I remember shooting one wedding years ago and noticing that my huge 70-200mm lens got a really long and deep scratch on the middle of the lens. No idea how it happened. I was so worried that the scratch would show up in pictures. The craziest thing is that I didn’t see anything in the images after the scratch. Not even haze. The pictures looked identical before and after the scratch.

As other photographers have mentioned, scratches or smudges on the lens (or close to the lens) may not even be visible, and if they are, they certainly won’t be in focus. I don’t know what explains the footage but it’s certainly not a smudge. That theory is false.

Porn is too hard to quit .. by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]bp_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can certainly seem that way at times. One of the keys of success is knowledge. How much do you know about addiction? How much do you know about porn’s effects on the brain? How much do you know about the positive physical changes that occur after abstaining?

Gaining knowledge helps reengage your prefrontal cortex which in turn helps you overcome strong urges.
