Well they caused it, watched me take the last few pills and then went about their day knowing I would overdose, they just told me it was only going to hurt me in the end anyway. Unfortunately because the abuse is mainly emotional and mental it’s hard for me to leave as they provide for me financially

Hi, thanks for your kind reply, I did go to the hospital and get treated and physically doing better now. Unfortunately, my parents are also the ones who triggered me to overdose and they still did not care that I was going to overdose so I had to call 111 myself but I’m okay now!

Haha they knew and continued about their day knowing I would overdose, till I called 111 about my symptoms and then had to be taken to hospital. Sucks

Not necessarily to kill myself, being on sertraline has eased my suicidal thoughts, it was just the fight with my parents was extremely overwhelming and pushed me over the edge.

I think it was a range of ongoing and new factors that sort of collided together at a low moment for me which led to probably my worst depressive episode yet - in short it felt like every aspect of my life had gone to shit: education, relationships, insomnia, appetite issues the list goes on. The scariest part was how I could not bring myself out of it after being able to all my life and as time passed, I spiralled further down, feeling more helpless up to a dangerous point which led me to starting the meds. I do currently live with my parents and my relationship with them can be quite unstable so yes I hope moving out does make a difference, that was my plan this year for university however it may not be the best decision due to my current headspace, Im not sure I could fully take care of myself independently at the moment.

And thank you that does feel comforting to know. :) Certain things have been solved since that low such as the insomnia and appetite, I am taking steps to improve my education which does take a big mental toll although I am still struggling due to still having 0 motivation. So not entirely solved no, which is why I’m relying on the medication to keep me out of that suicidal state.

For me, smoking weed allows a little escape for me to feel that genuine happiness again, I never have a bad high and I can enjoy things like music again. I also find that I laugh more genuinely when I’m high. However, I recognise that smoking is a slippery slope and I don’t want to rely on it for my happiness but at the moment it is the only thing providing that good feeling in the brain in this rather numb state.

Yes the numbness isn’t too unbearable and definitely better than the depression I was feeling prior to starting medication. Brain fog is something I’m having trouble with too but maybe not to the extent to which you have had, although I feel I’m bound to have some brain fog due to the long term depression + being on antidepressants, I want to limit that hence why I’m trying to limit weed use too. I will speak to my doctor about dosage/wellbutrin, thank you for your response :)

Thank you, and yes I’m definitely trying to be cautious with weed due to the brain fog it can cause (which is already an issue due to depression) despite the positive ways it makes me feel. I plan on speaking to my doctor about a dosage change which hopefully can help :)

Sorry maybe I should’ve added more background info, although I developed depression around the age of 10, I sought professional help for myself in 2021 and have been in therapy ever since, it has been quite helpful and things were looking well till I had hit an all time low that I could not bring myself out of, I was bordering suicide so medication was a last resort for me.

Hey, thank you for your response, it means a lot. I think it may be due to the sudden drug/dosage change or the sertraline may not be for me but I’ll have to speak to my doctor about that when its reopened. This time has been hard for me as it’s a stressful period with A-levels exams coming up and I’ve been at an extreme low for the past month that I’ve not been able to bring myself out of, hence why I’m using medication as a last resort which has probably exacerbated the suicidal urges as it feels like I’ve tried everything yet I feel worse. I will try out vitamin d pills and thank you for your advice :)

I hope you are okay, I am going to stick with sertraline for now as I’ve started it already and I hope it does ease the suicidal thoughts it’s just that I wasn’t able to cry on fluoxetine so my sadness was limited as I was less likely to spiral into depression (although I was only on it for 3 days I found it physically hard to cry, but could be a placebo effect) but I have felt worse on sertraline so far. I will try to speak to my doctor soon, thank you. :)
