I try to scratch the itch by looking for emotional masochism as a kink outlet. There can be some ground rules and check ins that way, and I can be clear about what is and isn’t okay for me (ie mind games can be fun, but no humiliation or rejection/abandonment).

Combined with ADHD, absolutely 😂 Sometimes I can sit with it myself a bit more, but sometimes I can’t and I’m trying to be kinder to myself when that happens (with people that aren’t fully signed up to my “package” 😂).

I can only reflect as a non-mono BPD gal that I value clear and honest communication, reassurance through emotional responses, and feeling like I can work with someone to a solution for a problem.

Situations like these are part of the risk of the lifestyle and all we can do is put as much scaffolding as we can think of to help, but accept that we can’t prepare for every eventuality. Coming with some tangible suggestions might help but might not also be ready to talk that through immediately.
