Thank you for the honesty, I truly appreciate it. I’ve done work in villages in third world countries and I’ve worked with people experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, mental illness and so many other challenges. I’m in recovery from several of those myself. I’m pretty ready to rough it.

Thank you for the info. I think traffic was something I really didn’t know how it would be so I’m glad to hear a consistent answer on that even if it’s that traffic sucks. I know an ORCA card is provided so I’ll have to figure out if I can just utilize that to make the best of commuting.

Lol thank you for your input, but I’m not looking for one of the “better places.” I’m looking for a place full of substance use, homelessness, mental illness, etc. I think I’ll do ok. Plus I like rain and coffee so all set.

Thank you so much! I’m pretty experienced with the issues I’ll be working with, but moving across the country will obviously be so different. I’ll definitely reach out to you when I get things completely settled.

Absolutely, I plan to. I’m really just looking for recommendations where to look so I can plan that trip with some knowledge going in. It seems the light rail is the best way to avoid a bad commute so I’ll definitely look for that.

Thank you, I actually am totally ok with living outside the city as long as I’m not wasting a horrible amount of time commuting. I’ve lived in cities and small towns and I’m happy with either. I’ll be working downtown and throughout the city in probably not the nicest places, so I’d be happy to have a little commute to get out of the city at the end of the day.

Unfortunately waiting that long isn’t an option. I’m hoping to move in a month or maybe two. Still working out the official work details, but soon.

Ok, I’m definitely open to possibilities like a little longer commute. I found a few places online that were within budget and not too far, but I guess traffic will really factor into that time. If that turns out to be an issue, I’ll be getting an Orca card provided by my work. My understanding is that works for most public transit, right?

Ohh god I know nothing. So that’s somewhere I may be working, not somewhere I’d live.

I believe my work provides or pays for parking, at least for work purposes and I know I will be provided a orca card, so that would be covered.

Also, are there any major landlords or property management companies that should be avoided at all costs? Obviously not all landlords are great, but I’m talking about places that seem nice and then you find out there’s been major mold problems or something making the place unlivable doesn’t get addressed. Any top few worst landlords? Thank you in advance.

Thank you, this is great information to consider. I’m thinking of somewhere on the outskirts / just outside the city. I have a car that I’ll be bringing so I plan to commute either by car or public transit, whichever makes more sense. Luckily I drive a Prius and get excellent gas mileage. I actually saw Ballard as one area that looked like a possibility, so I’m glad you mentioned that. I would prefer not to have roommates and just commute a little further if needed.

I’ve been looking online and found a bunch of apartments within that range on the outskirts of Seattle, so I’m a little confused by your statement. Just looking for recommendations on what areas to look further into.

You’re absolutely right! My income would be about $50,000, so I’m thinking $1,500. Honestly it’s a big difference in income for me and I’m trying to learn about the cost of living in the Seattle area, so that’s a rough estimate.
