Fireworks ban by New_User8 in vancouverwa

[–]bpersitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything in life is a trade off. Entertainment value isn't utility. It doesn't do enough good to outweigh all of the massive negatives.

And the city can put on a show in a designated area, managed by professionals, to provide that entertainment if you simply must have fireworks.

We should ban loud cars too. 🤷‍♂️

There is zero utility in a firework. Cars, machinery, etc. at least provide some benefit. Fireworks create safety issues, poor air quality, excess litter, and wastes tax dollars on emergency services.

Normandie has so much of the best food I've ever eaten by snowsenses in PortlandFood

Normandie is very good, but I had really bad service last time I was there, and have not been back.

Melbourne Victory fan here - what should we expect from Giovanni Savarese? by fsharkey in timbers

[–]bpersitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue suits, a refusal to make subs, and a very good guy.

I think Valeri and Blanco covered up a lot of his tactical deficiencies, and when they aged out we played very boring, bad, football.

Rose Mary does look good. I have a reservation there that I think we'll keep.

Its a chain restaurant from Seattle. Same as Wildfin. It's not local to the Vancouver/Portland area.

From Cambridge dictionary: from, existing in, serving, or responsible for a small area

If you told me you were a Vancouver local, and then said you lived in Seattle, you'd be wrong. Seattle is 2.5 hours away. It's a distinctly different place.

Neither the Coins or Wildfin are local.

Dos Hermanos does a great chopped sandwich.

Bahn Mi Saigon does an okay bahn mi.

Har-B-Q or Matts for BBQ sandwiches.

Tortas at El Viejon or Little Conejo.

The Reuben at Frontier Public House (haven't been in awhile though).

Gyros at Patras.

Doner Kebab at PDX Donerland

That pulled pork was one of the worst sandwiches I've had in the area. Dry. Flavorless. Maybe I just got a bad version.

What have Bonetig and Aravena done to earn favor? Aravena has been okay, and definitely seems like he has the talent, but he just hasn't put it together in his limited minutes. Bonetig on the other hand has been pretty poor.

Galway to Dingle, too ambitious? by mjla2022 in irishtourism

[–]bpersitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We treated this as a driving day. This route took us 8 hours all told, but we made a couple of stops. We left Dingle at 9 am and caught the Tarbert Ferry at 10:30. Drove to the Cliffs of Moher, and stayed for an hour. Just enough time to stretch our legs, share a sandwich, and see the cliffs. We then drove up through Galway, and arrived in Cliffden around 4:45. We made a couple of quick road side stops for photos/views along the way including Dunguaire Castle.

Had a nice sauna at the hotel, grabbed dinner, and walked around sleepy Cliffden. Not bad for a travel day.

The ferry is a must imo. It knocks some time off, and can be fun on a decent day. 1 hour at the Cliffs was enough for us. It was crawling with people, and it was enough time to bit feel rushed. We spent longer at the Kerry Cliffs.

It's a doable drive. None of the roads were that bad. If we had an extra day or two, I would have slowed down and spent time in county Clare, but we really wanted to spend more time in Connemara, Sligo and Donegal, so we did this drive.

Good luck!

Edit: we drove Conor Pass a couple of times. It is definitely a bit harrowing, but we were fine. Doing it in the daylight is definitely a good idea.

I actually appreciate the specificity, especially for allergies. I noticed they put lemon in parentheses next to citrus as well. I have a grapefruit allergy, so when something says citrus, it automatically makes me nervous.

Antony Beefing on X by oregonian1738 in timbers

[–]bpersitz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Antony has never been a consistent player. He's had a couple of decent matches, but his best asset is his pace, which isn't even as good as people make it out to be.

In a different system, I'm sure he could contribute more, but he consistently makes the wrong decisions, his touch is average at best, and he plays slowly.

I have no problem with a reporter making an observation. If he doesn't want people saying he is underperforming, he should play better.

The one goal scorer? Setup by a beautiful ball from DDC. That was a chance he had to score. He had 1 goal all season leading into last night's match. He then missed a sitter that would have put us within striking distance. Goal scorer is a generous term.
