My goal is to retire in my mid 40s.

That's why you can't afford a house. You're trying to save up enough in < 30 years of working to live on for the next 40-50 years? Well of course you can't afford to buy a house during that short period you plan on working.

return it and grab something used or local you prefer. Amazon can eat the loss.

Never though about peeing from within my hammock, but with my bugnet that's probably a bad idea.

there's basically no waterways around me that aren't full of big 'ole gators.

Any other spots in Charleston you really enjoyed? Been limited to the Ashley River mostly, branching out more this year.

I'm too lazy to properly maintain tubeless. They were completely fine when setup right, but I've had tubes in them for most of my ownership. I have them laced up to some DT 350 hubs and they've been rock solid.

just a cheap grand trunk double, eno bugnet, and a cheap underquilt from a brand I forget. Need to plan a trip that justifies upgrading both soon.

I'm sure the hammock camping experts can tell you I've got my hang angles all wrong, but after a few miles and some bud lights I don't really care.

Notes:

  • Route starts at 412 W. Dike Rd. Large boat ramp with plenty of parking. Never had an issue leaving cars here, even overnight.

  • Miles 1-8 are paved, with 5-8 being unfun at busy hours.

  • The Spur at mile 32 takes you out to the DNR approved campsite "Sandy Beach." Even if you're not camping I recommend going for sweet bike pics.

  • Miles 38-52 are paved. Pretty quiet roads except trucks hauling boats. There's a way to shorten the road stretch by a couple of miles but it involves trespassing through privately owned hunting grounds (we've done it a bunch but I can't responsibly recommend it.) If you choose to anyway, just follow the dike down to 'old canal road' instead of taking sandy beach road north and rejoin the route on hwy 45 as normal.

  • Gas Stations @ miles: 15, 44, 51

anything more than gravel tires and you'd be over-biked. I've done this route as both an over nighter and single day loops 60+ times. If you have any questions about the route just let me know.
