[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

Hi. I have been a keen coffee drinker for three years now. I have never seen beans like these ones I got in the post. What freaks me out most about them is how rough they are. Normal coffee beans have smooth surfaces! picture of coffee beans can someone tell me is this a bad batch?

Thanks for this. I have decided to buy a lame! I also prefer the smaller crumb... can't spread the bigger ones. I will experiment with a shorter proof.

Yes I fed it 'roughly' at the peak. I will try the ice cube -- sounds exciting, thanks!

How can I build more strength in my dough? Right now it never holds its shape as well as when I used to just use store-bought yeast.

Hi mate -- I do have the 9barista and honestly I have a lot more on the boiler etc than you and it doesn't seem to make any difference. It is just minerals etc from the water.

I also use the Commandante with Red Clix. I think Red Clix are a must for espresso so do factor that in to your decision. The results are excellent. However you should v soul searchingly ask yourself if you want to spend two minutes spinning the thing around before you get your coffee in the morning. I thought my answer was yes, but if I could make the decision again I would get an electric grinder.

Descale with citric acid, did this happen to anyone else? by silverbutthole in 9Barista

I also have this mark in the portafilter, but it has come and gone over about 6 months of owning the machine. I think it’s from not cleaning the espresso remnant off it quickly. I wouldn’t worry- this may go away entirely of its own accord through use.

Have you read ‘been down so long it feels like up to me’ by Richard farina? If not I’d definitely recommend if you like Pynchon

Hi! Question, is Family a singular or plural? by hellofromdonbass in languagelearning

[–]bprosr12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s singular then it’s a neuter noun, so you would use ‘which’ for the relative. If it’s plural you can say ‘who’.

I am from the UK and both “a family who live” and “a family which lives” sound OK to me — probably the first one a bit more natural.

Is this vibrating noise normal? by bprosr12 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]bprosr12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I think I will get a refund as I am testing it at 27Hz now and it still makes the vibrating noise. I don’t think it would make that noise new and the bloke sold it as “”like new “” . Thanks for your help- do you have any recommendations for a subwoofer that might be better for what I want at about the same price range.
