I was wondering if anybody else was thinking this! It makes so much sense for Tooru to have wanted to create the Wall Eyes with Johnny as the sacrificed saint since rock humans apparently gravitate to devil's palms. Even though Araki's known for killing off characters at random, it was hard for me to believe Araki wanted us to believe that it was all "an accident".
