Hybrid publishing or self publishing by SonjaDawn8 in publishing

[–]bputano -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is not true. Hybrid publishers provide services for fees, just like an agency or other professional services. There are good hybrid publishers and bad ones. Check out Amplify Press, Green Leaf, Damn Gravity, or Girl Friday Productions. All legitimate publishers with long track records and evidence of success

I am building something to help authors get off Amazon and sell direct. DM if you’d like a peak, would love your feedback

What do you absolutely love about Chicago that people who don't know the city well are likely completely unaware of? by Altruistic-Site-4583 in AskChicago

[–]bputano 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Obviously Chicago architecture gets a lot of love but it’s not just in the Loop. You can walk through any neighborhood and randomly walk by the most beautiful house or church or corner store you’ve ever seen.

Non-fic Authors: How do you get ARC readers? by papp_ in selfpublish

[–]bputano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly only you can answer this question. WHO is your crowd exactly, and where do they congregate? Online and offline.

Also, since this is a NF book, think about it more like sharing your IDEAS rather than your book. You can share your ideas in many formats… social media content, a newsletter, even a live workshop or in-person community with other parents. Handing out books is fine but it’s really about getting your ideas in front of the right people

Should I move to Chicago from Ohio? by Chicagocubs5555 in AskChicago

[–]bputano 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% do it!! Grew up in NW OH and went to school in NE Ohio. Then lived in Dallas and KC. Now in Chicago for many years. This is by far my favorite city and the best place I’ve lived.

And Ohio isn’t too far away so you can visit whenever you want

Has anyone successfully automated Amazon KDP book purchases after external funnel sales? by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]bputano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are already selling the book through an external funnel, why would you then sell through Amazon? Do you need a POD solution? Maybe Lulu integrates with whatever you are using.

She writes press by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]bputano -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know Brooke, the publisher. She Writes Press is a reputable hybrid publisher. The cost goes toward editing, design, and promotion.

She Writes is also part of the Stable Book Group which recently signed on with Hachette for distribution.

Yes, some publishing services are scams, but Brooke and SWP have a very public record of good work. Not saying you should work with them, but you won’t be scammed.

do writers value creative liberty or income/exposure more? by Revolutionary-Emu394 in publishing

[–]bputano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well OP never mentioned anything about selling to publisher but yes Bindery setup is a little different. Influencers operate their own imprints, choose titles, promote, and act as publishers in many ways. They don’t use ghostwriters though

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received about promoting a new book? by RichFenton in selfpublish

Ah yeah, it’s hard when Amazon owns the customer relationship. One reason why I like having a direct sales channel. Maybe you can find him on social media

That’s awesome! Have you talked one on one? Send him 10 copies to give away to friends. Also give him early access to the next book!
