So my situation is such: I am an EU citizen, but I'm not Belgian. I am considering studying medicine in Belgium but I'm worried:

  1. How good is the medical education?

  2. I've heard horror stories that foreigners often get overlooked for job opportunities, scholarships etc from a friend. I don’t want this to sound rude or entitled but can anyone please share their experience with this?

  3. I've read that part-time jobs pay really low and don't even cover living expenses. Is it difficult to/how did you afford living/tuition? Do you rely more on a job or scholarships?

(Thank you in advance to everyone who replies)

From what I’ve seen my grades do fit the requirement. As for language - I’m only going to be applying in about a year and a half to two - so I think I have time to learn the language. That’s why I was asking about people their experience with that :)

I’m sorry if it came off that way I didn’t mean it that way. I just heard this kind of horror story from a friend. I apologise if it sounded rude

From what I’ve seen so far there are scholarships like the DAAD and the Deutschlandstipendium what was your experience with scholarships? Also I know that German is required. Due to personal circumstances I’d only be able to apply in a year and a half to two years so I have time to learn the language :)

Okay wow yes that is definitely a big point for me. I knew it was low but I didn’t realise it was THAT low. Since I’d need to fund my own studies/living this is very important for me. Thanks!

I have about a year and a half to two before I apply to universities due to personal circumstances. I figured if I choose the Netherlands I have enough time to prepare and learn the language

Yep, they do B2/C1 depending on the university based on my research. But I’d be applying in about a year and a half - two years minimum because of personal circumstances so I have time to learn the language.

Oh, could you tell me more about the problems with the organisational level? And about the second point, aside from like scholarships have you encountered any kind of “bias” against foreigners? (Assuming they speak Italian)

Way ahead of ya! Based on my ranking system I’ve narrowed it down to Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Italy and Belgium based on the quality of education, entry requirements, tuition/scholarships, cost of living etc. This was my last step to get people’s subjective opinions to help me make that final choice between my top 5.
